New Alice In Chains

Alright, that's it. Fuck waiting.

I'll download and listen to this after work tomorrow. Jerry does most of the lead vocals? I've always preferred him to Layne anyway!

I also found out who plays the piano on BGWTB....Elton John.

Seriously, this is their deepest album. Every single song sounds like it's been written specifically for YOU and about YOUR life.

Also, when you get it, do me a favor....and trust me on this: listen to the title track BGWTB before you listen to the rest of the album. It will set you in the mood and you'll connect with it on a much deeper level.

John, just a warning. You're going to seriously cry when you hear that song...I know you're a pretty tough guy but this song is going to break you down really hard if you even BEGIN to identify with the lyrics. Just be ready because it's different when you're hearing it in high quality by yourself. I got all misty-eyed and emo when I heard it. I've been listening to it for the past two hours...just that song.

"I don't wanna feel no more
It's easier to keep falling
imitations appeal
emptiness, all tomorrows haunted by your ghost

lay down, black gives way to blue
lay down, I remember you

fading out by design
consciously avoiding changes
curtains drawn, now its done
silencing all tomorrows, forcing a goodbye

lay down, black gives way to blue
lay down, I remember you"

When they were tracking that song in the studio, Jerry Cantrell had an anxiety attack and couldn't finish it for three weeks. He went to therapy and even had a spinal tap to figure out what was wrong with him...he was getting constant migraines and couldn't figure out why. He said there was some "undigested grief" that he hadn't dealt with and that it all came up when they had to play it in the studio. They kept putting it off even though it was done because they knew they weren't ready for it. When you hear it, you'll see why.

Dude...

One of the reasons Alice In Chains have always been a favorite band is because of song's like Nutshell that do make me cry.

I was going to finish watching Rodger Dodger and jam this now, but I'll definitely wait until I'm relaxed and settled down tomorrow.

BGWTB will be first.

ok fuck im excited, sputnik gave it a 4.3 out of 5 (really really good) and you all are hyping it up, looking was a weaker track and Cantrell does most of the vocals....sounds amazing.

damn discovering linux and potentially my new favorite album in one night :p

God DAMN this computer for not having a working disk tray. Gonna have to burn it at someones house tomorrow then come home.

The first time I preorder an album in my life too. Oh well.

Good man. You won't regret it.

Also the solos are FANTASTIC. They're not overdone at all and fit perfectly with the songs. On All Secrets Known, the solo has maybe four notes all told, but it's the bending and minor tones he's using that make it fantastic. I don't wanna say it sounds like David Gilmour but it's definitely in that vein of touch and class. It's got this kinda Middle-Eastern feel to it...sounds like he used a harmonic minor scale.

Never been a big fan, downloading it to listen to it after work.

Holy shit...

You know the chills? The music chills? BGWTB just gave them to me and I'm not sure I've had them at all this year.

Dead Winter you were right on point. There's no filler here. This is instantly an album I'll be listening to for the rest of my life. How many times have I been able to say that the first time I hear something?

It's an Alice In Chains album, through and through.

Listened to 'Dirt' again today while working. Never gets old.

I liked the first single/video and am looking forward to the album.

Sooo looking forward to this.

This band is pure magic. I drove through half the country and back a few weeks ago "just" to see them at a very intimate club show. It was one of the most intense experiences I've ever had.

I can't even wrap my head around you guys saying that "Check My Brain" and "A Looking In View" are some of the weaker tracks on the album because I already loved those. ALIV was so god-damn heavy live... ridiculous.

I fear that this record may put me "down in a hole". AIC is pure crack. It drains you, puts you down but you can't keep your fingers off the bitter-sweet joy.

Dude, this album is ALREADY making me feel suicidal. I'm downright scared of the day it's raining and I decide to listen to this in the car.

When I heard "Looking In View" on the radio I thought "Eh. This is pretty good. It'll be a decent album".

Fuck no. This is so much more. I have to give it some more listens, but someone said this was the third best album? Fucking agreed. Right after Dirt and Jar of Flies.

I mean I still need to listen more but it's just...man. I seriously haven't felt this way about music in a LONG time.

The chorus of "Private Hell" is making me feel like I'm in a freezer.

Oh man... oh man... It's another 5 days, I've pre-ordered the ltd. ed. with the shirt:

But I don't know if I can wait.

There might be the promo waiting for me at my station but I won't be there till Friday anyway.

If the old stuff didn't move you (like it did with some of us), it's pretty likely that it doesn't. I wouldn't pass judgement on first or second listen, though.

It doesn't have much to do with nostalgia... at least with me. I only really discovered them years after Layne died.
