Cool, I've always found it irritating that almost all amp sim bundles have a Dual Recto and a JCM but there hasn't been a single 5150 modeler yet. Not a big fan of the Amplitube stuff so far, but hope this one turns out good.
theres almost too many good freebies nowadays to get to excited but I'll check it out...
between Wagner Sharp, Juicy 77,Simanalog and boogex with cab impulses the metal can be covered pretty easily...
Revalver II is really nice as well...

oh thats gonna be awesome! Its difficult to get a good metal sound out of amplitude but this looks just right.

The wagner sharp with a tubescreamer in front of it sounds sickly similar to the 5150!
Yup, the latest song I posted was all Wagner with 5150 Curve EQ's, worked pretty good

I'd say it's going to be a XXX, that would be the sensible amp to emulate. Considering the minds of some of these developers I wouldn't put an XL emulation past them though.

Awesome, this looks rad! I still think Amplitube has the best tube emulation out there. Their preamps through impulses sound amazing - very excited that they are doing the 5150!

Hehe I'm guessing you haven't tried the Revalver MkII
Actually I've spent an equal amount of time with both (about 8 hours in each, trying lots of different things, also using external impulses and effects, etc.)
I have yet to achieve tone out of Revalver Mk II that comes anywhere close to Amplitube 2. It's OK, but it takes a lot more work in Revalver Mk II to get anything even remotely usable. I find myself constantly fighting with harshness and fizz, and lots of sonic ugliness.

I find the AT really muddy, and I like that you can load impulses in RVII. Also the revalvers strong side is the ability to tweak the tubes and internal stuff. Once you understand what the different paremeters do to the sound, you can change the stuff you don't like

Yeah AT can be muddy, I tend to switch off its cab simulation, run it into AltiVerb and use my own impulses of my Mesa 4x12 cab. Then I'll usually run into a UAD-1 Pultec or Neve EQ and go from there.
As for tweaking revalver - perhaps I'll give it another go. I'm sure there's some parameters I didn't mess with before I started using other effects to make it sound better.
Line6 already has an amp sim of the 5150II in the MetalShop pack. MS-Criminal is the model. But nobody has done the original 5150 until now. Hopefully it sounds good.

Right, and the Criminal is OK and I've done a million rough demos with it. But AT2's tube modeling is SO much better than Line 6's, so I'm really excited about this. Also, AT2 is the first actual software plugin to pursue the 5150 sound. GearBox doesn't count because it requires a Line 6 dongle.
