And the new song was actually really good live. There is a cool but simple riff that is not in the sample, some female chanting which I think is in hindu, a nice solo by Jon and then there is a part where he just talks, calling upon Kali.

I've heard the full thing now, together with the pretty redundant re-recorded version of "Unhallowed" which is the B-side on the single.
No surprises. Imagine the sample looped for 6 minutes, with a clean break featuring some sort of hindu chanting and spoken word, and you're close. It's far from bad, but it's not as good as I would have wanted it to be.

I think it's a fucking great song and look forward to hearing a better produced version. The album will hopefully have some fast songs.
The vocals on the re-recorded version of Unhallowed reminds me a lot of your own vocals on Blood Fire Death, Erik.

Old Fart
Maha Kali is better than that sample would have you believe. Once the song really gets going, it's not bad. Still, it's more Gothenburg sounding than previous material. And there is no chilly, cold feeling from the music. It's very "warm" sounding. The production is too clean for Dissection methinks.

As a huge fan of Gothenburg metal, I'm surprised to say that I was let down by the song on first listen.
I guess I was also expecting SOTLB:II...the song's not bad for what it is. The lyrics are cool, and the female chant adds a great deal of variety, although I must admit the song lacks atmosphere, especially in relation to previous albums.

I hardly ever even listen to the old Dissection albums, and Maha Kali was STILL a let down. I wasn't fucking expecting anything, I just think it's a pretty weak song. That re-recorded Unhallowed doesn't fucking come close to the original either.
