new katatonia video

I thought it was quite cool. Katatonia might just be the best band ever. I can't comprehend why Katatonia isn't HUGE in the US. They're like a gothic Tool . . . only not so weird. With bands like A Perfect Circle getting all kinds of media, I'm totally confused as to why Katatonia is basically unknown. I guess I'm just so far into the "underground" I can't see or hear something the rest of the world does.

katatonia says peaceville will not promote them in usa. they are leaving after the next album and finding another label

I guess that's good, but sadly if the word is spread in the US, 99.9% of their new fans will be complete assholes. :(

Peaceville doesn't even seem to support their American bands very much over here!

Yeah these dudes would probably be huge over here with a video or two on MTV.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, they have about a million hooks per song so why the hell not.

Depends on who you ask, but for modern stuff I really like Viva Emptiness.

For their doom days, Brave Murder Day is pretty classic stuff.

That's actually the first time I have heard Katatonia (yes, I'm lame). That tune was awesome. Where do I start guys.

In chronological order of their full-lengthers:

Dance of December Souls - black/death/gothic stuff

Brave Murder Day - death/doom/gothic stuff . . . a classic (contains death vocals)

Discouraged Ones - melodic doom/gothic stuff . . . pretty much a classic (all clean vocals)

Tonight's Decision - melodic doom/gothic stuff . . . more catchy than past stuff (all clean vocals)

Last Fair Deal Gone Down - melodic gothic rock/metal stuff . . . really catchy (all clean vocals)

Viva Emptiness - melodic rock/metal with a hint of gothic . . . very catchy, quite a bit like the sample you just heard (all clean vocals)

Haven't heard all of the new one yet.

In my opinion, all their albums are excellent, but you might as well work backwards (start with Viva Emptiness). My favorite is Tonight's Decision, followed by Last Fair Deal, Discouraged Ones, Brave Murder Day, Viva Emptiness, and Dance Of December Souls.

I initially described the song as being equal parts Tonight's Decision and Viva Emptiness, so try those out. I agree that Katatonia could have potential crossover success in an ideal world, but I don't think the mallcore crowd would respond to them very well (sorry Daniel)...

katatonia has made exactly ONE song that deserves the tag "gothic" and it is "scarlet heavens" off the 10" split with primordial. thank you. if someone calls brave murder day "gothic" again i'll fucking e-punch them.

no it's just that i dont want people to associate eyeliner vampirism with the band that wrote the best god damn album that has ever existed in this wretched fucking world
