New Katatonia!!!

It's too nu-metal, methinks. Some great choruses, but all of the chugga-chugga and "just don't give a shit" lyrics makes me think that this would have been top of the charts...2 years ago. /forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Disagree. Its not nu-metal at all in my opinion, its just Katatonia. And its f***ing great. Bought in on wednesday!

Oh man, it's damn good alright! Mine just arrived yesterday but on the first spin my standout tracks are: track 2 and "one year from now".
Love the last instrumental as well. I believe it will be my favorite of theirs, even after LFDGD which I didn't think would happen.

OH..and I just remembered... #12 OMERTA ....hellyeah!:Smokin:

i actually thought a lot of the lyrics were pretty good.
sometimes not so great, but when you listen to the way the melody carries them, they all the sudden can kind of take on a new meaning or feeling
it's definitely not nu metal..."Wealth" kind of seems like it as first, but the verses are anything but nu metal.
it is simplistic, but what katatonia isn't?

does omerta really ends suddenly at 3:00?

Is Omerta track 12?? I sometimes never get around to learning songtitles..but today was my first day of really listening to this album....eventually I will learn them....

Does the part starting at 2:50 on track #10 make anyone else think of Tool??

I need to get me some more.
The tiny bit of the album i've heard did sound scarily like certain mainstream heavy rock bands... Nickelback, Staind, etc etc etc

Big chunky chordal chorus... rather than the sorta airy guitar tone that was so good on LFDGD

Nice album, but isn't offering me anything i really want from music at the moment.

The anger present on this album does remind me of nu-metal anger, but its better and more varied and definitely used more appropriately.

It's good, i'll listen to it and enjoy it quite a bit. I'd say its a more even album than LFDGD. But no track even comes close to Teargas, in fact if my favourite song from VE were to appear on LFDGD it'd be about my 7th favourite from the album.

after listening to it a lot, my opinion is...
it's a good solid album
not their best, maybe like their third best or something
i really like it quite a bit, but i guess i do wish there were more solos
Omerta does annoy me...it's really good, but i hate the "fucking" in there, and it really needs something else.
but other than that i like it quite a bit, it's a little less depressing and a little darker sounding

Truth is, i've been widening my music tastes lately...a year ago, I was all "Emperor! Dimmu! Origin!"....now, thanks to Opeth, i've been exposed to soft music that still manages to be GOOD. I would have never got into, for example, Further Seems Forever or Katatonia, if it weren't for Opeth and music they make so fucking well..........
