New macbooks getting released thursday?

I really like the new MBP designs (especially the keyboard) over my now 3-year old non-unibody 15" MBP, but it makes zero sense for me to upgrade until they release a quad-core machine. Apple used to be a powerhouse when it came to laptops, and while I still think they have the absolute best hardware, they're trailing behind other manufacturers who have put a quad-i7 into their machines.

Totally agreed, i was planning on picking up a new mac soon though, just debating on going with another macbook, imac, or, whats really appealing atm, is the mini but idk how it is for recording purposes.

i didn't even realize the i7 macbook pros were only dual core.

Processor speed is important, but really what would you consider to be a comparable PC in terms of : Power, weight, graphics, construction, design, multitouch trackpad, ports, out-of-the-box ready to use with your DAW.

I'd never go with a PC for a laptop. A desktop of course. I haven't seen anything that competes with the full package that the Macbook pro is.

Don't want a debate, just show us the competition.

A while back I saw someone on here talking about a custom PC company who builds laptops for recording, and they were setup so that they could use desktop processors... which is a huge advantage, as desktop processors are pretty far ahead of their mobile processor counterparts.

I forget the name of the company at the moment, but they were comparable to macs in price and much more powerful machines.

I think it may have been Adam who was talking about the company. Can't remember...
