New Maiden Single

As others who have posted here, I´m not impressed by this song. It sounds mediocre and I expect more from Iron Maiden than mediocrity. However, they have made far worse songs than this IMHO. Have people forgotten "Bring your daughter to the slaughter"? "From here to Eternity" is also a strong candidate for the worst Maiden song:puke:

Hmm, pretty boring overall. It sounds decent-ish from 3:10 - 4:45, and the chorus parts are passable I guess. But very forgettable and frankly disappointing since I've liked a fair bit of their last few albums. Had to thrown on some older maiden afterwards to steady myself.

Problem with Maiden now is they have nothing to prove since they are one of the most popular bands on the planet and anything they release will sell bucketloads regardless. So either they don't try very hard or experiment far too much, I would think the former here sadly.

BNW is THE best Maiden album.

Most definitely. :worship:

BNW is THE best Maiden album.

I'm beginning to consider this as a possibility. The debut, Powerslave, Piece of Mind, and Somewhere in Time are all damn good albums with some absolutely classic songs, but there's a maturity and sophistication on BNW that I don't hear on anything else they've done.

The new single could be a good song, but it sounds like they phoned it in. BNW was the only album in the 21st century Maiden that had some real life to it, because there was the sense of urgency that comes with having something to prove. Now they just seem to be punching the clock, waiting for a pay check.

This. So formulaic, boring and just generally really bad.

You're right. BNW is already a true classic; easily one of the best metal releases of the "'00's" (that's 2000 - 2009), and right up there with the "holy trinity" of 80's Maiden albums you mentioned.

No. It has no place among the 80s albums.

Care to back this up with some album by album comparisons? BNW does not have a bad track on it, whereas every 80s album has at least one if not 2-3 boringly generic tracks.

ABout the only average song on BNW is Fallen Angel (imo)

Uh, guys?

NOOOOOMAAAAAD, YOU'RE THE RIDER SO MYSTEEEEERIOUUUUUUUS

and that's the good part.
Actually, it's a good song aside from the absurdly bloated interlude, but it comes out to more or less average. Blood Brothers, Brave New World, and The Mercenary all suffer from excessively repeated choruses, but the songs around them are so good that they remain excellent. Nothing approaching For The Greater Good of God, at least.

Tbh I would say the both the entire album and the songs on the album are stronger than the sums of their parts. It wouldn't be inaccurate to say that the album is festooned with excessively repeated lines and interludes that go on too long and has a shortage of really memorable riffs...and yet it's just really really good.

I am a little partial to Nomad, since I first listened to it rolling around in Iraq, felt pretty iconic at the time.

My favorite three songs on the album by far ar Ghost of the Navigator, and the last two songs on the album.

I am a huge Maiden fan and i found this song boring. it had no interesting parts. To slow and plain. My favorite Iron Maiden album so far is Powerslave. Up the irons \m/

It's better than anything they did with Paul Di'Anno. The S/T and Killers are the most overrated Maiden albums.

Um, what? Go back and listen to the s/t, this time with your ears open. That is a brilliant punk/metal hybrid that has probably never been equaled.

I know, I know, I've heard it all before. "All post Di'Anno Maiden sucks!", "Maiden's S/T is their best album!", blah blah blah. I might put those two on par with SSOASS and NOTB, or even slightly ahead, but the Di'Anno era was not Maiden's best. I realize that those albums sound unique because of the punk elements, but they were not dominant enough to call it a punk-metal hybrid. In fact, I'd venture the opinion that the rawness of the music and especially the production is what makes those albums sound "punk", more so than a conscious effort to play punk rock.

I don't see what's with all the love for Brave New World. It doesn't really hold a candle to A Matter of Life and Death, or even The X Factor.

It's a much more varied album than AMOLAD is, and has a nice 50:50 distribution between faster/heavier songs and slower and more melodic moments. The "rockers" on AMOLAD aren't even especially aggressive, with Different World and The Pilgrim being practically pop metal. The way I see it, Dickinson and Smith were just coming off a creative high having written The Chemical Wedding, and with BNW some of that was retained. Then the wells were drained dry once again.
