New Megadeth is pretty good

it's actually not too bad of an album; definitely of countdown and youthanasia standards (i.e, a few greats and a bunch of decent). which is about the level of system, but system didn't really capture that great megadeth sound. that put it on par with hero (for me). i liked hero a lot!

AND christianity only affects music when it enters the music. usually. i'm sure there are some bands i like that have christian members. YOU TOO.

i've only listened to it about twice so far, but theres only really 4 songs that really stand out as good to me and the others are pretty mediocre. i'll have to listen more, i was pretty surprised that so far sleepwalker is one of my favorite songs even though it only has like 3 riffs in the entire thing.

sleepwalker has a some dynamic riffing and i swear, if it were played a bit faster it could have been on the first album. mustaine just rehashed all the techniques in loved to death.

also, washington is next, is total maiden worship. it's like wasted years meets number of the beast meets trooper or aces high.

Believer is one of my favorite tech thrash bands

Is the new album as strong as Eidolon's last one (I know they're completely different)

I really wish I knew what they changed to destroy it so utterly. Is it the tempo? the production?

the video is interesting despite dave's weird pseudo acting

Yeah, that's not nearly as good as it could have been. I can tolerate Dave's vocals when she and Cristina are actually singing together (possibly just because of her?)...and I agree with penguin, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what's wrong with it. The tempo change definitely doesn't help it, though.

I just watched the Roadrunner video (which has better sound quality than YouTube, of course). I think if they would have just kept it at the same tempo as the original, they would have been fine. Dave's voice has survived better than most of his contemporaries, and the new Drover solo is kinda cool.

So, yeah. It didn't nearly reach the potential it could have, but, I MIGHT be able to get used to it after repeat listens.
