Secret Recording Project?
June 15, 2011

"A few months ago our own Kirk Hammett hinted at a new Metallica project that's "not really 100 percent a Metallica record." While Kirk may have jumped the gun a little (and has since been properly punished with a series of push-ups!), we are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed.

Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together. Some of you astute Bay Area residents may have picked up news of recent Lou Reed sightings in the greater San Francisco area and we have indeed been working at our home studio at HQ on and off over the last few months. In what would be lightning speed for a Metallica related project, we recorded ten songs during this time and while at this moment we're not exactly sure when you'll hear it, we're beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week.

A true innovator and easily one of the most influential songwriters, musicians, and performers in rock music history, Lou's work with the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist has such an enduring quality that he has long been revered and respected by us and many of our peers. We can't wait for you to listen to the finished record, so as we like to hear ourselves say around here, keep watching this spot for updates . . . we'll be back with more details as they come together."

I quite like Lou Reed and I love Metallica. As a combination though, I can't think of anything worse. Lou can't sing to save his life, the last thing Metallica needs is another person who can't really play their instrument.
Who the fuck thought it was a good idea

Lou is a perfect fit, can't sing and can barely play, he's like jaymz and kirk rolled into one.

Lou reed may not be the best singer or player in the world but ive found all of his stuff to be ten times more compelling than anything metallica have ever put, and im acctually shocked there are people who dont know who he is,

The problem with Metallica without Dave Mustaine is that he was the only guy that could wake up one morning and say:
"Hey, how about we make the kickass metal album that all the fans want? Let´s call Andy Sneap".

I heard they had over 300 riffs made to 'create' the songs on this.

LOL.

damn Metallica changed...

Cliff took the spirit out of Metallica when he died, imo. It went downhill after that. It could also be that James and Kirk ran out of old Mustaine riffs to steal. ;)
Metallica fanboys all hate that accusation, but I haven't heard one decent or real original riff or song idea come from Metallica in over 20 years. I wonder why. Whereas Dave is a riff machine. Get at me.

I'm surprised that there's more bashing going on about THIS than the fact that there is an official Metallica Monopoly board game!

Metallica = KISS

Before we know it, in a few years, Lars or James will feature in their own reality show like Gene Simmons or Ozzy :erk:

I don't think Mustaine had much to do with Dyers Eve or Blackened or Justice or Damage Inc or or Puppets or Fade to Black or Bells or Sad But True or .....

as for the spirit dying with Cliff ... Cliff was a huge jazz and pop music freak as much as a pure metalhead. How can you be sure he wouldn't have wanted to experiment as well as he got older?

Not really much of a fanboy, just think its pretty easy to bash them or say things in regards to Dave and Cliff without looking a little deeper into it

Dave put out his share of turds as well you know ;)

Yah I know. It's just a big coincidence. That's all. ;)

But I get what you're saying, and probably would have gone downhill anyways. Who knows. I just wish Metallica would do the same thing Dave did and call up Andy and ask for help in writing a metal album. I haven't enjoyed Metallica since Master of Puppets, and the only song I even like on that album is "Orion". I couldn't stand And Justice... it just sounded strange.
