New Metallica DVD

lets give lars a little credit guys... that he could play this really easy double kick pattern.

And another thing... remember how heavy that part was in 1988??? now its so lame. Or maybe it was the pyro and shit that was making it lame.

Still gives me a big smile listening to them. Heard a few from the blabbermouth page, they are not young anymore but still giving it some heart and soul. Gotta love em

They definitely aren't what they used to be. I picked up Live Shit: Binge and Purge a few weeks ago, and the aggression in those 2 concerts (especially the 1989 one) is absolutely incredible.

Still though, even with all their faults now, I still dig what they do.

And - why is he playing with that tape on his hands like that?

From Kirk himself...

"If you look at the side of your hand, right below your pinkie, you'll see there are some wrinkle lines. At least there are on my hand... [laughs] Because of my playing style, I'm constantly hitting the strings and palm muting and, generally, beating up my right hand. Over the course of a tour, those wrinkles start busting open and bleeding. I put tape over the wrinkles so they don't break open and bleed all over my guitar, 'cause if a string gets in there once your hand is cut --wow!--that stings! Plus, it lets me play faster since it reduces drag between my hand and the strings."

He's always done it. I think he actually tapes his pick to his hand.

[Question] There have been many theories spread on the Internet about why you tape your hands. So once and for all, why do you do it? --Jerry Glass

Once, when we were on tour, I looked out into the audience and saw a kid with both his hands taped up like mine. I was cracking up so much I had to give him a backstage pass. --Kirk Hammett, Guitar World, January 2006, 112.

Metallica will never disappoint me live - I cannot say that about many bands (well Iron Maiden - but other than that - very few). Still give me goosebumps after all these years.

From Kirk himself...

Funnily enough, that explanation occured to me straight after I posted.

I'm pretty injury prone as a result of my shoddy bass playing style as well. I have to wear a support brace on my wrist as I friction burn the skin off my wrist without it. :erk: And I'm not talking over the course of a long set either, more like in the space of one song.

Hm, not sure about this one. Autotune on Fade to black, the vocals sound so small, and more than ever Kirks "vibrato" really gives me the shits.

Think I'll stick with Binge and Purge + Cunning stunts to remember why I loved these guys so much afew years ago.
