i thought about this mics

http://www.thomann.de/de/oktava_mk_01201_mkiimatched_pair.htm
http://www.thomann.de/de/akg_c1000s.htm

somehow my personal favourite is the ae 3000

or do you know some better mics?

i also thought about a spl goldmic as a pre for the ae/overheads, or this behringer tube pre (if this device works)

thx

edit// i like straight-down overheads on the side at the drums (eg. hihat/ride) better then x/y oder R/L at the center of the drums (eg. above racktoms), maybe this is relevant

in the price range you mentioned, you should be able to pick up some SM-81's, or even pelusos or josephson's...depending, of course, on the current exchange rate and availability in europe

sm 81 are about 500euro, so thats a bit out of range. even if you sumup 250+goldmic.

you know, i want to use the goldmic pre also for otherthinks then overhead tracking, 1000 euro just for 2 overheadmics is to expensive.

Interesting that you chose the Rode NT3; usually it's the NT5s that are used in overheads. They're typically sold in matched pairs.

I would not use ae3000 for overheads. We have a bunch of those in our studio, and they're great for snare and toms, but not as overheads. I don't really have an option atm, but not AE3000. Maybe these? http://www.thomann.de/se/oktava_mk_01201_mkiimatched_pair.htm

i think i remebered that the nt5 had this harsh highs, which i do not prefer.

i like it more "linear" (not really linear, i hope you know what i mean) sounding without an agressive air sound, because if i need this extra highs (which i normally dont) i'm going to boost em
