My PC is beginning to becoma a nuicance because of the CPU is running out of steam. It can't run Cubase well when all the plugins are in use.
I've been thinking about getting a brand new one :P What kind of computers do you guys use?

i made my own for around £550

Its a 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, currently overclocked to 2.56GHz, ive got 2GB of ultra low latency ram running at 4-4-4-15 i think. Using an Asus P5B mobo. Just built up a 2.3 gig core2dup for my mate on an Asus P5K board. Which i struggle to overclock easily. loads of fans in both systems to keep it cool under stress to support the overclock.

Im running Nuendo 3 with absolutely no issues with monitoring latency when recording, no problems with playback on over 24 tracks all with vst plugins being used.

PM me a budget and a list of what you have and need and I'll work things out.

Jeff

Well I've got Cubase SX3, a shitload of various waves plug-ins, drumagog, firepod w/b2030a monitors. That's by far all the useful stuff i can think of to list. I like to individually add one of each necessary plugin per track. When this is done, Cubase just tilts. It's too much for my PC.

I need something that's a real powerhouse. It should veeeeerryyyy easily play virtually any combination of tracks/plugins etc I want.

As for the budget, I'm not sure.. Let's start with the great equipment and work ourselves down to the affordable :)

I am building a rig right now thats only going to cost me around 325 dollors, one thing that many people dont realize about todays intel processors is that the cheaper ones are almost exactly the same and can be turned up "overclocked" to run 95% as good as the ones 2 times as much. for example...

the Intel core 2 duo e2160 is around 80 dollars and is 1.8 ghz but can be overclocked to around 3.0 ghz with the stock cooler, a intel core 2 duo e6500 also is 3 ghz but costs 200 dolors and will not overclock very far at all maybe 3.4 ghz max. .

this could be gibberish to someone not familiar with pc building but, my pc is ending up with the same exact specs as a pc that cost 500 dollors more, all the parts shipped to my door cost me 320 bucks. and my rig was geard toward miner gaming. you could build a MONSTEROUS Cubase rig for even cheaper

I needed to know about the screen, interfaces (keyboard, mouse, recording interfaces, et cetera), and any parts you'd like to reuse (hard drives, video cards, whatever) to get started.

And what Alan said about overclocking is true, if not entirely safe - we'll be upgrading your cooling system so you can get good use out of your stuff, but I'd prefer to play things safe and not have stability issues.

True true, I forgot that fact that Im not really expecting this system to be my main computer for very long

If you don't want to build your own, check out www.sonicalabs.com. I have had two of his systems and they work great. Great support as well. If you can't be bothered to build your own like me and need your shit to work and if it breaks down need a new one the next day then it's a good choice.

These guys for a couple of extra bucks will put the processor, mother board and memory together and test it before they send it out. Then after that you will need a case, couple of hard drives, power supply, video card (for dual monitor set up) if not dual you can get a motherboard with onboard video, lan etc. Mwave..

Another good place to purchase stuff from is New Egg

i know this goes against your point but anyone of us could build a system with any of those specs for almost half what they want for it. Again it shows that if you want something right do it yourself. but then again a good option id you dont have the time. Or if you want the warranty

SX3, Waves, Drumagog and a Firepod here, too. I just built myself a budget PC that has so far handled everything I need. Core2Duo E4400 processor, Asus P5B motherboard, 2 gigs of Corsair DDR, Western Digital SATAII hard drive and it cost about 470 euros. Nothing too fancy, but the parts are reliable and as I said, I haven't ran out of processing power so far.
