hey folks,

so this is a snippet of the mix i was talking about in the parallel compression thread over at the production forum. still a roughmix and no vocals or lead guitars yet, but i thought i'd share it for the sake of the compression thread :)

as you could guess, parallel compression was used on drums and bass.....other than that it's still in a pretty rough state, but any comments esp. about what desperately need to be changed will of course be appreciated :)

so, here's the link, enjoy

The guitar tone is great but the drums are to low, I almost cant hear them right, specially the snare and kick.

alright, you're definitely right - guess that's the downside of mixing at night at way too low level :( drums seemed fine back then, but when listening at a louder level the drums really disappeared :(

anyways, just uploaded an updated version with louder and less roomy sounding drums

not sure whether i went a bit too far with the level though.....haven't referenced the mix on another system yet :(

of course any comments will be greatly appreciated!

any comments guys?

i feel the current version is pretty good for what it is, DI bass and ampsim'ed guitars.

however, i feel that there's just a certain grainy quality to it that's not there on professional releases, plus it doesn't quite have the same punch...so i really wonder where i'm going wrong with my mixing....but then again, i'm sure the source tones are also playing quite a role here.
