I have been on a rock and roll kick lately and a little bit of prog rock even. I have been listening to Brother Cane "Seeds" and Sieges Even "Navigating by the Stars." The two are absolutely apples and oranges as Sieges Even is prog rock and Brother Cane (at least on that release) is dark, rock and roll with southern rock and psychedelic influences. However, I don't know any rock and roll or modern prog rock to try out. Less Staind, The Goos and Three Doors Down, radio rock does little for me as well. Any suggestions ?

Btw.... thanks brother Hawk for the Sieges Even recommendation you made about forty years ago.

Hmmmmm, dunno. Where does Disturbed fit? I guess they're more metal than RnR. I do like 10,000 Fists but their earlier stuff doesn't quite do it for me. Sickness is just OK.

How about Shinedown? They've got some halfway reasonable stuff. My wife likes them quite a bit. I depend on her to feed me info on the more RnR side of things. There's another one she picked up on last week -- Balck Stone Cherry? Or is it Stone Black Cherry? Dunno. They're on Roadrunner, I believe. Yeah, here's their page:

Don't you just hate it when people type out loud and then are too lazy to clean it up afterwards?

Modern prog rock? Real good prog rock?

The Flower Kings, The Tangent, Planet X, Jelly Jam, Spock's Beard (not much a fan of them), Gordian Knot, to name a few

For straight forward hard rock try these guys - American Heartbreak. I just got the album and am digging it. One of the guitar players was in a band, from the 80's, called Jetboy.

For something with a southern edge try Laidlaw. On the audio page they have samples from all the songs on the new album.

Prog rock, give Proto-Kaw a listen. This is an early version of Kansas, actually Kansas version 2.0, that has reformed with of course Kerry Livgren.

I just sold my American Heartbreak CD but I didn't know the guitar player was in Jetboy... I love Jetboy's "Another Day in the Glamourous Life" !

:headbang:

I may suggest Dead Soul Tribe, the band fronted by ex-Psychotic Waltz singer, also on guitar now.

They're a dark and modernized mix of old Black Sabbath, psychedelic (prog) rock from the late sixties/seventies and Jethro Tull, crowned by the subtile voice of Devon Graves. Very atmospheric at times, and not your typical metal band.

The January Tree turned me into a fan :)

No problem buddy, alway's glad to help you. Now get their other albums
"A Sense of Change" and "Sophisticated". in that order. If you liked "Navigating" you will also like "A Sense of Change".

I got "Sense of Change" so I can shoot it his direction. It didn't catch with me like "Navigating" did. Dunno why, it just didn't. Although I should revisit it to see if it might.

Everytime I hear Buckcherry I'm surprised by how much I like them.

Also, there is a band called Kings of Leon that I love. Kind of like CCR meets the Stones in a modern way.

Also, the recently mentioned (on this Forum) Wolfmother might do it for ya. Mind ya, these all fall strictly into the rock category.

For prog, I dig Mars Volta.

I really like Buchcherry as well. I sort of like that band The Darkness.

I am digging this Laidlaw. The lyrics are a little too straightforward for my tastes, but overall I dig their groove. Cool band. This could get airplay in The South east US. I was asking for bands similar to Brother Cane. Their not in BC's league, but sounds like they have some influence from them.

I just checked this out as well. They remind me of the old Goo Goo Dolls before they were able to earn the bucks for mega production. Punk meets pop meets rock and roll. The lead singer even mentioned Goo Goo Dolls as one of his fave bands. The influence is apparant there.

The Black Stone Cherry is pretty cool. It's straight ahead rock and Roll, but there are some metal moments in there as well. I need about half a dozen newer R&R discs. Of course I haven't got the new Goos release, so that is a given.
