New Scar Symmetry track

I dunno, I think the song maybe is a tad forgettable, but still is pretty cool - and that definitely sounds like the Fireball again for rhythm tones! I gotta say, I don't mind the clean singer too much (nowhere near Christian obviously, but come on now), though in that point where everything drops out and he comes in, he seriously sounds like he's about to cry (and unlike Gareth, I do not consider this a good thing :D At least, not in a heavy song!)

But man, when Per's solo comes in with that unmistakable style, it's like seeing an old friend again after years and years :worship:

Im liking it. I know its not up to par with the stuff christian sang on, but cmon... who really wants SS to disappear into the night? christian will be back. And I dont think the vocals are far off of what he was doing anyways. I think this tune rocks!

Based on some of the live vids we've seen of the new singers, I was expecting this to be a lot worse than it really is. It's not *bad*, and no it's definitely not Christian singing, but it's still recognizable Scar Symmetry.

I don't know. Since I was first introduced to SS through "Holographic Universe"...that has become one of my all time favorite albums. While this new track isn't BAD...it's jut not "there"...at least not for me. Not digging the guitar sounds as much as HU either. The new singer...hmmm...not crazy about him, but I won't write him off until I hear more tracks.

I know this is gonna be against what everyone thinks but I just don't find Per that impressive. I find his solos really I don't know clinical maybe. Like generally a lot of shredding that sounds like guitar pro shit. Maybe bc thats how he writes his solos, but thats just me. I can't do the stuff he does by any means and he is a monster of a player but I just do not dig it at all.

i still havent heard a single metal guitarist that even comes close to david gilmour
gilmour can't shred for shit, but he does far more with far less than any metal guitarist i've ever heard, this Per dude's just another guitarist thats soon gonna be forgotten IMO.

You know man honestly I may not agree with everything you say, but my respect level just went through the roof for you. Best statement I have heard you make.:kickass:

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion Kyle, and I admit there are times when I *sort of* agree, but the main thing for me is how fucking fluid he is, and how his best solos have lots of slow melodic expressive parts and then explosive fast runs that just take me on an emotional rollercoaster (in the best possible sense). The solo in this new song was by no means one of my favorites, but this:

starting at 2:45, and this:

interestingly also really starting at 2:45 (and both are track 6 on their respective albums, COINCIDENCE!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!!? :loco: ) are! The latter especially could be the greatest solo section I've ever heard in my life (both the solo and the rhythm part under it, which accents it SO well in an almost counterpoint way, but never feels too busy or overbearing IMO, a fucking MASTERPIECE) But if you still think that's just GP wanking then maybe your feeble brain just can't keep up with it :heh: (just kidding, or am I  )

Errrrrr :puke:, i don't like the vocals, and the song is really boring and bland imo, nothing special.

Hahaha feeble brain.......good one.

EDIT: and another thing you need to understand is Scar Symmetry is one of my favorite bands.

I was gonna say, everytime theres a metal guitarist debate somebody compares them to somebody whos totally not a metal player....as if to hold up the ol' "emotional" statue as far superior, comon thats old already.

of course, but still, there's this thing called tastefulness, and the fact that you like this guy's solos because they skip between slower sections and then really fast runs is the exact reason id say this guy cant write for shit. he cant keep a consistent mood. he's too ADHD to be careful with his note choices and wring every ounce of emotion that's possible out of every note that he plays.
i appreciate a good guitar solo as much as the next guy, and this dude's got chops, don't get me wrong cos that's all well and good, but he hasn't got enough restraint to really play every note for all they're worth. the measure of a guitar player isn't how fast they can play, but how fast they can play and refrain from doing so for the sake of the music.
his solos seem like a caveman-esque expression of UG UG GUITAR SOLO GOOD, MAKE CAVEMAN HAPPY in aid of a few kids at shows throwing some horns up, at least to me.
but i suppose i just don't get it, eh?

edit: wouldn't have posted the video if I didn't think I could justify doing so. So there's the justification :)

haha, yeah, that's settled, who's for a cup of black coffee and a slice of cherry pie and a twin peaks marathon? :D *raises hand*

edit: i'd love to hear gilmour in scar symmetry.
