They just finished tracking drums with the dude from Darkane. Did anyone see the photos on their page? http://soilwork.org/

Three overheads and some individually mic-ed cymbals?
I always smile when I see a respectable band record drums in a tiny little room, it makes me feel better.

Also, I would still love to know who's going to be mixing this thing.

The two individually miced cymbals are for his two hihats (or so it seems).

There's more than that. There's one mic per set of hats (one on each side), there's another on the bell of what I'm assuming is his ride- the very large cymbal near the front of the kit with the massive bell- and there's a mic on what looks like a splash, again at the front of the kit, on the opposite side from the ride. His ride is on his right (our left).

I see four crashes, two towards the front, one at the back, which seem to have the overheads aimed at them, and an additional crash near the front on our right. I think that overhead is probably aimed between the two. There's a china near the far rear crash, two sets of hats, a splash and a ride. Four toms, two racks, two floors- one per side- miked both top and bottom, a single kick, and a really deep snare (looks like a cool wood- quilt maple?).

And are those 57s on the hats?

Dirk Verbeuren(also of Scarve) was actually named their official drummer a while ago , which is just unbelievable!

The guy just shreds to bits on Stabbing The Drama, not to mention his flaming drum work on Scarve album!

... I can't help it , I'm a fan :)

I hope those triggers are for feeding a noise gate sidechain input and not just replacement. Why mic the bottom heads if you're just gonna trigger a sample?

with good drummers like this, they capture as many sources as possible, and then choose what they want to use later

basically, if he puts off the magical performance for the song, they have "options" for mix in the end (mic position options, trigger options, room options, etc, etc)

I've heard it gonna sound more like chainheart machine than the newer stuff, this album is gonna be real intresteing I think :D

Seeing Dirk live is really cool, an amazing drummer!

I think they've found a new guitarist also, so they are a complete band again.

I've always felt that they had some unfinished business from that era. The clip of drum tracking they posted definitely brings back memories of Chainheart Machine.

Imagine Chainheart Machine with some melodic vocals thrown in! :worship:
