New Sonata Arctica Song!

yep---Very boring..How can anybody here claim this is anything new and exciting..thank god i heard this as i will not be buying this album on this song alone..thats how i roll:lol:

very tired soubding.>Even the vocals have no effort

Unfortunately, that's the impression I got from it as well. I still am holding out hope that the album will have some good stuff on it, but I am not sold at this point.

+1

This song doesn't sound like anything off Unia, anyway. So I don't really understand how TribunalRecords could say that.

Unia is my favorite Sonata album and this song sounds pretty cool. I hope they don't completely abandon the Unia sound, though.

I agree you completely zedowns
Unia was my favorite album by Sonata
it was a new sound for them and i loved it
the problem with most bands is that they stick to the exact same sound and music and they end up writing dull music
the only Sonata album i don't really listen to Reckoning Night

this song sounds really good and i cant wait for the album to come out!!

they are having one headlining show before they tour with Dragonforce and its in the LA area so im excited for that :)
its the week after prog power so ill be broke its gonna be hard to savage for some cash

Heard the whole album and to say the least I'm VERY disappointed. I wasn't crazy about Unia but it had its moments and it grew on me a bit over time. Unfortunately this is a far cry from even that. Flag in the Ground is incredibly misleading and the rest of the album sounds nothing like it. The new album isn't power metal, it's not really progressive metal, it's not really metal at all. It's just artsy-fartsy experimental crap. I'd say we can throw this band in the "done" bin now.

actually, i wouldn't sign SA to my label right now given the chance. i mean yes if i was a money grubbing whore i would do it, but since i am not that type of label i would pass. also, not faulting labels who have been with bands since the beginning and capitalizing on all their hard work getting there. that is not my use of "money grubbing" here, what i would be doing signing a popular power metal i do not care for, would be.

i have signed plenty of big bands before their prime so i do know what it's like to sell good quantities of albums hence TR being around in it's 10th year. with TR it's more about supporting bands i enjoy listening to whether it be hardcore, AOR or death metal. if i don't like something why put it out?

That's a pretty awesome/legit philosophy sir. I've heard so many hilarious stories of big labels doing the most ridiculous shit for money.

I see you signed Iron Thrones? That's pretty fucking awesome, I LOOOVE that band.

I really hope you're not basing your opinion off the leaked version, you can't even make out whats going on half the time.

I like Unia as well. Most of the criticism I hear of it is 'it failed' 'it sucks' 'its terrible.' I don't hear much... constructive criticism. I think some of it just comes from people who don't want SA to get to far into the realm of progressive music, because well, they don't care much for progressive music.

Well, I thought Unia was a pretty disappointing album, but it wasn't necessarily because of the style, I just don't think it was executed that well. There were a handful of tracks I enjoyed, but overall I felt the songwriting was very disjointed and the songs just weren't written very well. I had said multiple times that I believe it would be possible for Sonata to do an album in the stylistic vein of Unia but have it be MUCH better.
I don't care about them modifying their sound, experimenting, and getting more progressive, but it stands to reason that not all evolution is good evolution. Just because Sonata have tried new things doesn't mean that's automatically a good thing, because frankly (and most SA fans will agree), Sonata are just best at making power metal. The reverse is also true. If a band like Dream Theater released a power metal album, it would probably suck, because it's not what they're good at doing. Just because people don't care for Sonata going in a more "progressive" direction doesn't mean they're close-minded and uninterested in the style in general.

I don't think I could've said that any better if I tried.

This is excellent. Since I think Unia is their best album, this new one is likely to be music to my ears, based on your assessment. Thanks for the recommendation, though you didn't mean to do so :heh:

I should have it arriving in the mail right around the official release date. :headbang: I am also avoiding listening to any previews, aside from having watched the video a few times.

I think I should make it clear that I am not saying the new album is like Unia, it's not. As much of an awkward turn from the previous albums as Unia was, this one is again. It's not the further maturation I expected and was hoping, taking the style of Unia but improving upon it, it's rather just making another awkward turn.

We have no way to know that if we don't let them actually try new things. SA have stated repeatedly that they needed to start making other things in order to keep going because they were getting really sick of power metal. And you may be thinking "in that case it would've been better if they just quit", but that's wrong - a lot of people DID like Unia, and a lot of people WILL like the new album for sure. Their evolution may not make sense to you, but honestly, that's completely irrelevant as long as it makes sense to Tony Kakko (as the songwriter and band leader). They fill a purpose, both artistically for the band and for the fans who can live with the fact that every song doesn't have double bass drums and a soaring chorus.
