Nightmare Metal Fest II - Review and Pics

Well Mark has a unique reviewing style.

I will say that this was a singer's fest, there was little to no growling vocals either night. Lots of talented singers were featured at the fest. It was a good mix of various styles of metal as well.

I heard the attendance number was a fiasco... :(

Hope the fest was good though, regardless.

That's too bad. Seems they had a great showing last year in Florida...

But I do wonder if having it the same weekend as the great SXSW fest did hurt (as the review questioned as well).

I was at the Florida fest last year. Attendance was (unfortunately) far from great. Brilliant show though. Lance put together a great gig. Couldn't go this year due to finances.

They claimed it was sold out last year, or something like that? Maybe people bought tickets and didn't show.

If I ran a festival I'd put down 5 chairs, sell 5 tickets and call it a sell out. Anybody else that wanted in would be allowed to. I would then claim it was standing room only. Critics and fans alike (as if there was a difference) would be forced to claim that the attendance was phenomenal. I'd then pull a Mel Gibson The Patriot on my DVD and copy and paste all 13 fans and critics over and over so it looked awesome. Maybe even put an Uruk-hai in the middle as an easter egg. Legolas crowd surfing.

I overheard estimates that around 400 people were at this year's show. The crowd didn't really build until the third or fourth set each night, so the early bands played to a mostly empty house. This might be related to SXSW, as Cherion mentioned earlier. One of the highlights for me was that almost all of the bands were in attendance all day, each day. Overall, the fest ran pretty well, and all of the bands were a lot of fun to watch.

LOL I heard there were barely 100 each night. I wonder what the actual numbers were.

Dude, put me up as a sponsor. This is gonna be the shit!!:lol:

Mike thanks for the gracious comment, that was alot of fun just hanging with all the bands.

It may have been harsh, but at least this guy gave an honest review. I would rather read that than a ball-washing of every band.

Any vocalist who does not know the lyrics to Heaven and Hell and / or Victim of Changes deserves, in the good words of Manowar, to...........

LEAVE THE HALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't comment on the performances, as I wasn't in attendance. But I agree with the interviewer with regard to Aska. How this band continues to wallow in obscurity, despite releasing one of the best Power Metal discs of the past decade (Avenger), is beyond me.

I 200% agree with you on ASKA Brian, and to be honest they kicked major ass, their newest cd Absolute Power is amazing. The Guys in the band are great to hang with, and party with. This band is really deserving of a slot at PP or the showcase, in my opinion they would blow the roof off.
