The law goes into effect tomorrow for the whole state.. Yes!!.. Yeah, it is going to kill alot of small bars, but for the ones that don't go out of business, at least a person will be able to breathe in the place.

We've had that law here for a while. Though I'm a smoker, it didn't really bother me too much, in fact I prefer it that way. Just go outside for a smoke. However, they've gone a few steps further and banned smoking in nearly any public area, be it outdoors or not, unless it is a defined smoking area, and those are few and far between. My employer has even banned smoking entirely on their property, forcing those of us that smoke to do so in the alley. Apparently that wasn't good enough for them though, as we were told that "we are not a good enough looking group to be out there together" (thats an actual qoute), so now we are regulated down to 2 employee's in the alley at any given time, smoking or not. We all called bullshit on it, but never got a response. :Smug: We've also heard rumors that in the very near future anyone found to be smoking on the clock (or during our lunch break) during buisness hours, whether on the property or off, will be terminated on the spot. Knowing that, I've planned to spend my upcoming vacation chain smoking non-filtered Pal Mal's across from shipping and recieving...

We've had the smoking ban in Scotland for just over a year and it's been wonderful going to gigs and being able to breathe.

Actually they have that in place where I work too. People cannot even smoke in their cars. I assume the reason is that employers want to keep their health insurance costs down. At the corporation where I work, smokers in their 50's and 60's etc are noticeably sick more often than other workers. In the end, everyone ends up paying more for health insurance because of this.

The ban is about 5 years old here, and a nice large club went out of business because of the lack of customers. They took away freedom of choice, smoke is bad to breathe I agree, but they should leave it up to the owners, not the legislators.
After 5 years the percentage of bar goers went down about 20% per bar. The place that closed the percentage of lost customers was 70%. The people that say it doesn't affect businesses are ignorant or misinformed.

And this will happen everywhere in the country,thanks to the major anti-smoking bullshit! I know it's not the fault of the bar's owner,but I'm one of those who boycotts places where you're not allowed to smoke.If they need my business,they will find some solution!

Where I am a firm believer that non-smokers deserve the freedom of choice to NOT smoke other smoker's second hand smoke, I still agree that there should be a designated smoking area in venues for those who do choose to smoke, like an outside patio area or somewhere ventilated. :Smokin:

They banned smoking in private clubs here, imagine that! If you built a cigar club from the ground up people at the town meeting would complain they can't go in because it's too smoky.... Duh!!!!

Here's another case of "stupid but true", though it drifts off topic...
Several years ago, all trees planted in the center median or along side highways were removed if they were over 6" in diameter because they were a safety hazard. Why? Because somebody's drunk teenage kid swerved off the road and hit one, killing him. Of course, had that tree not been there, he would have gone into oncoming traffic and injured or killed someone else as well. But hey, it wasn't his fault he died, it was the tree's. :Smug:
Also: here in Mesa, all the olive trees have been removed and effectively banned from the city. Apparently they were playing havoc with some peoples allergies. Not everyones, just a few.

Hehe...I used the word "boycott",which was probably too much to say,but no,it has nothing to do with politics.I just don't go to places where you're not allowed to smoke,that's it.But if you think about it,the legislators are giving a major headache to the bar owners with this bullshit,and everyone is just losing on this deal,nothing gets really better.So in a nutshell:It's fuckin' stupid.I agree with Linda,somewhere on the way they should look for a compromised solution,not this drastic crap!Yeah,yeah,I'm a bad man,I do everything that ruins my health,and when I go to a strip-club at 2AM,already half-drunk,and high on coke,I'd like to be able to smoke too.
