* Though it's not like anyone will actually notice disc jitter on noise CD's anyway
Uh...yes you will. Noise is abstract, not retarded. You can tell when someone fucks up in noise (though a lot of times they will say "well I meant to do that there and it's art duh!" but those peopl are just dumbasses) and jitter does affect a noise CD. It's music. It's just not mainstream. I guarantee the same people said "it is not music" about forms of punk when they first came up, etc. I guarantee someone in the future will break "noise mainstream" (hell, Wolf Eyes is pretty popular in the indie scene already) by combining it with crap, but there will always be "true noise" that practices harshness and craftsmanship (believe it or not, noise takes time to get it to sound how you want).
So die plz.
Also, everyone should at least listen to Merzbow -
Tauromachine, Masonna -
Inner Mind Mystique and Atrax Morgue -
Sickness Rerport before even TRYING to diss noise. Though, that doesn't change the fact that a lot of people here will say "oh it's awful" anyway, just to prove me wrong...but I remember first listening to Merzbow: it went from annoying, to compelling, to amazing, to fucking fantastic. Noise is essential music (YES it is music, in my definition, any sound recorded and sold/distributed as "artistic media" is MUSIC).
The above three CDs are ESSENTIAL listening to all fans of experimental music.
Within the Merzbow CD, you will find beats and analog sounds combined with pure white noise washes manipulated through pedal effects, as well as interesting digital editing, creating "loops" (think of a CD skipping, only noise artists usually only loop GOOD moments of tracks) and pulses you would never find in "normal" structured music. Though, that doesn't imply Merzbow material lacks structure...it's just quite loose and undefined. I always hear something new whenever I listen to
Tauromachine and the variation is excellent while remaining consistently powerful throughout the whole CD...I mean, with enough listens, you can follow each song's loose structure pretty easily...
Masonna is much noisier than
Tauromachine, and I guarantee Maso would constitute a complete turnoff for anyone just getting into the genre. Still, the name of the game is loud, harsh vocal-only noise manipulated through a handful of effects. Very little variation, as opposed to Masami's work as Merzbow, but then again, a lot of people into noise like the spastic, harsh walls created by Maso. In any case, the CD is a fucking
experience...and almost an endurance trip.
Atrax Morgue is not strictly "noise"...it's not harsh (that is, it doesn't usually involve blaring mid-high frequency washes), but it also has no beats...so it is sort of confusing. The whole CD was said to be recorded in about an hour (it's ~38 minutes long) with little to no post-editing/overdubbing, because Marco wanted to create the sounds like "a cold manic raptus"...AM is totally surgery-influenced pathological sound. Very claustrophobic and disturbing psychological sounds...a little ambient combined with a little noise and a bit power electronics (steadier noise with vocals/samples/synths). Highly recommended, and listen to it in the dark...
