NOVEMBRE - Classica
By Metalmaster

Up 'til recently, I had never heard of this band before, and when I listen to "Classica", it comes as a suprise, because this is a band which deserves more attention (or am I the only one who hadn't noticed them?).

The album opens with the brilliant "Cold Blue Steel", a piece of music which makes me at loss for words. Like Opeth, Novembre defies category. While Opeth is a kind of progressive death metal band, Novembre could be said to be a kind of progressive black metal band (notice "a kind of...").
Well, the "black metal" tag is mainly due to the rasping vocals.

The album continues with more delicate offerings, including such interesting songs as "Nostalgiaplatz", "L'Epoque Noire" and my favorite of the day, "My Starving Bambina". Such cool song titles.

The entire album is a diverse, exciting musical experience, and is for me one of the best bands I have discovered lately.

Though not as technically complex as say Opeth (again), Novembre still demands attention from the listener as they are very good at stuffing their songs with interesting ideas.
Check it out (or not).
