How did you get into metal Dweller? What were your gateway albums? It seems you dislike a lot of trad/power/doom metal and you mainly like black and death metal. Did you start with black metal?

Well my first metal band was Type O Negative (still my favorite), but other than that I didn't listen to much metal. BUT when I was in medical school I wanted something else to listen to while studying other than film scores, and that's when I discovered black metal. Theatres des Vampires was my first band methinks. It was perfect and pretty much the only extreme metal I listened to. Eventually I discovered the proto black metal bands and found they were similar to the proto death metal bands, and that's where my appreciation of death metal began. I actually got into death metal this year. Though I did also discover doom, death-doom, funeral doom and folk metal along the way. Oh wait, thrash! I discovered thrash thanks to Carnivore a while back and I've been enjoying the shit out of that genre lately. Never found a liking for trad doom tho but that may change. I bet I'll eventually get into power metal via Helloween or some shit. But yeah, that's my metal journey in a nutshell!

You're a doctor? What's that like? What do you specialise in? It was a career path I was once interested in. But after studying mathematics for my A Level, I knew that I wanted to do maths for my degree instead of medicine.

You favour black metal so heavily that I was wondering if that's what got you into metal. It's good though, black metal is obviously the best subgenre anyway.

I'm a hospitalist, which is a "subgenre" of internal medicine. It's great actually. I work 7 days on then I get 7 off. Sooo much free time. And on top of that I really enjoy what I do. I've always hated math haha, but we each have our calling. Cheers to black metal reigning supreme!

As much acclaim as I've heard about that album, I haven't met many black metal fans in real life that care for it that much. It's a shame, too.
