Damage Case
Man I remember that release being one giant uninteresting generic mess. Thoughts?
I really love the instruments but vocals seem to be quite silly and unique at the same time. Riffs are top notch tho.

So, I finally got the chance to listen to this all the way through. It's kind of disappointing, honestly. Sultan's Curse is actually a really good opener but all the momentum that the album gains is immediately lost by the time Show Yourself and Precious Stones begin. These two tracks legitimately feel out of place on the entire album, especially when one considers many of its more eclectic elements. They just sound like generic, bog-standard alt-rock that grew stale a decade ago.
The tracks that follow those two (Steambreather, Word to the Wise, Roots Remain, Jaguar God) are a significant improvement. Word to the Wise, in particular, is pretty awesome. However, I couldn't shake off this feeling that they were just trying to play catch-up after the disappointments that were the second and third tracks. Some irritating verses and choruses that end up falling flat really don't help matters either. Musically, it's much more metal-oriented than on the previous two albums. The problem is that the composition lacks focus in some areas and since they've pulled off concept albums with far more finesse than this (see Remission through Crack the Skye), the flaws become quite noticeable. On tracks like Andromeda, the album meanders somewhat and while Jaguar God somewhat helps to ameliorate that, it's something that I just can't ignore by the end.
While some of this album really proves to be a step in the right direction, it still suffers from some cringeworthy vocal melodies, baffling attempts at commercialism, and somewhat unfocused composition.
