The ballads are terrible, but I still enjoy Greenface, Attila, and the Gettysburg Trilogy.

I feel the same way. I like parts but the parts I DONT like are really fucking clunkers. I liked up until Tribute of the Gods. After that the albums contained songs that I liked but I just have no desire to listen to the albums fully. It bums me out because in my formative years of listening to metal Iced Earth was a favorite. Night of the Stormrider, Burnt Offerings, and Horror Show are some of my favorite heavy metal albums ever. I even bought Days of Purgatory so I could hear Barlow sing the old songs. Nowadays, I'm just burning $10 on a new Iced Earth album.
 
I have a similar relationship to Iced Earth as you do, and I agree with you on their best albums. The last one I paid money for was Dystopia.
