I definitely need to stop neglecting Deicide past the first three. Massive guitar tone on this album.
that album fucking sucks, but im pretty sure your buddy Phylactery will agree with you.

Pretty sure I'm one of the few who put it in their 1997 list. Killer fucking album, don't get the hate at all, but then again you're barely a Deicide fan to begin with. Much less explainable hate from self-proclaimed Deicide fans.

Album crushes, way better than the third album.

Dont need to be a fan to dislike something. I think their first two albums are way better and so is Stench of Redemption. If anything fanbois will go ahead and overrate most of their albums and what you need is people who dont love or hate them. Same goes for my thoughts on bands like Priest and Maiden, not really a fan of either of those two bands but they have albums i think suck and ones that i think are okay/good.

Quick search through the 1997 round and the only people who listed that album are myself and zerostatic. Phylactery not only didn't list it in his main list he didn't even include it in his list of trillions of honourable mentions. It is, along with The Stench of Redemption, the out-crowd Deicide album.

yeah sure and most people like me would place less weight in the opinions of fanbois who swallow up almost everything from said bands.

Not my problem, definitely not a fanboy of Deicide, only like 5 albums and the rest (which is also the majority of their discography) is average at best.

Well Deicide aren't really an in-crowd band anyway. And if anything Manic just said hes a fan and hes one of the few in-crowders that's still around. And what "Phyl" lists doesn't really mean anything to me tbh since he has a different username for different bands and genres that he claims to enjoy.

So you wouldn't say that their first few albums are some of the best death metal of all time? I'm pretty sure you would. That would imo automatically make you a fanboy

Deicide might not be an in-crowd band but much like Slayer, the early albums are in-crowd favourites while the later material is usually dismissed out of hand. For example Phylactery didn't even give Serpents of the Light an honourable mention, neither did Slayed or any of the other fans of death metal here, and Manic self-admits that he neglects Deicide beyond the first three albums.

Straying too far away from Deicide and Legion is like the forum equivalent of straying too far away from the cool table at high school.

Anyways for me the drumming on Serpents of the Light is a massive highlight. Utterly punishing shit.

Sulphur Aeon The Scythe of Cosmic Chaos. Mixtape game got me here. This shit rips.

Yeah, I sampled some songs off Scars of the Crucifix and it was mostly forgettable. I'm sure their albums will just be hit or miss for me.
