Good to see someone put it up there. A guy I used to know reckoned that was the first thing he was going to do when he sourced the CD. I was too greedy to share my copy with the world :)

Giving this another shot after not listening to it for a while. Really not my favorite of theirs but I wouldn't really call it terrible. I like tracks like Where the Slime Live, Nothing but Fear, Caesar's Palace and Inquisition (Burn with Me) but otherwise, it's kind of middling which I think is its biggest problem. Calling it on par with Illud and Heretic is a pretty laughable notion though.

I think Phylactery's completely off-base to call it on par with Gateways as the latter is much more inspired in its peaks.

I did rank it one place below Gateways when we ranked their discography. So I agree. Really not that much in them, though. If I want Morbid Angel I’m listening to Abominations, Altars, Blessed, Covenant and Formulas and the odd track from some other albums.

This was my first Amon Amarth album, found the CD in a discount bin. Still have a soft spot for it. "Legend of a Banished Man" and "Avenger" are such fucking good tracks, especially the former with its cool mixture of Unleashed-esque death metal that transitions in and out of a cool melodic black metal kind of thing. Pretty icy cold shit and Peter's production job on this one makes it all stand out so nicely.

Yeah, it’s just a weaker Morbid Angel album if anything. Not terrible by any means.
