Well i was just offered a set of yamaha ns10m for 300.00. I have the cash and was actually gonna buy the behringer truth 2031a until i was offered these. Now I'm kinda stuck on which way to go. I really wanted the behringer because i wanted a bigger speaker and more low end. I'm using 6in monitors now (wharfdales) and I'm really struggling in the low end. Now I know the yamaha's are not the best sounding and they will not have the low end i need but I'm thinking i should have them. I seen on ebay some ns10m for 375 with no bids so I'm not even sure that 300 is a real great deal. Plus i need a amp for them.

Please give me some advice guys of what you would do.....

300 US dollars for Yamaha NS10s (pair)? That´s great price I think! (in my country the usual price for this legendary monitors is about 600-800 dollars or so)

i would take the yammies, for sure. the behringers have more low end, but it's tubby and un-defined low end

if you do get the behri's, put me in touch with the seller, and i'll take the NS10's...i can probably get the $300 back from my alesis m1 620's

There really should be no question here. You will find a set of NS10's still in use in almost every great studio. They were the industry standard for a VERY long time. Behringer is just a terribly awful "cloning" company. I don't honestly think anything they make is worth even one lousy dollar. Seriously... offer me anything made by them, and I won't even give you a fucking dollar for it.

i think getting NS10s is like buying a used old honda

if you shop around in classifieds and stuff, you're gonna run into people who are asking fair market value, but if you know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy, you can score 'em for like 1/2 that

i've heard a lot of stories of people picking them up for around $400 or so

only problem with them, as far as i can tell, is that replacement cones are expensive as shit

NS10s. Add a sub if you need more bass.

agreee defs

I got NS10's and i fucke my amp. was a pain in the ass finding an amp but still worth it.

I find if your mix sounds good on those, they are likely to sound good on anything else.

I have had problems with low end before. listening to the mix later on and finding theres too much, Get a sub. Thats what i wanna do.

TAKE THEM!!!!

Thanks guys...

Yea i was eventually gonna get a pair of ns10's it was just should i wait or swoop this deal now. Well I'm getting them today and then i need to just get a power amp for them. Then maybe a sub! :heh:

I definitely need some help with choosing a power amp. I know that Andy said he uses a Bryson but Metal kingdom mentioned the Crown d-75 power amp I think it was. Yea any input on power amps you may have used that worked and sounded good would be cool. The cheaper the better cause I'm gonna be broke.

Thanks again everyone! :kickass:

The Crown seems to be the only suitable amp available new, and the company seems to have a good rep., so that's what I'd go for

However, I just realized that the topic concerns you wanting more low end, in which case I'd say Blue Sky Mediadesk 2.1 without a doubt - I've heard nothing but amazing things about these sets from many reliable sources, and I recommend reading up on their philosophy on www.abluesky.com. I'd definitely get 'em as my first pair, except that I find having a sub to be too flattering to the kick drum when I'm trying to mix it to be audible on a system that can't produce much under like 100 Hz (i.e. most systems and headphones), cuz you feel the kick and think its fine, and then when you go to another system, often it disappears cuz it needs tons more attack. But since you already have great monitors, these will just supplement them to allow you to switch to 'em to hear the real low stuff.

NS-10.

Also: I just checked ebay, where did you find a pair for so cheap? Everyone seems to be wanting 2 times as much as you said.

Search "Yamaha ns10m" there is like 3-4 pair that are 300.00 and under with no bids. Shoot one is 275.00 with no bids. Yea if you just type Yamaha ns10 in the search everything is expensive.

as i said when i blew mine i found a reasonably good Priced one.

ART (Applied Research and Technology) SLA-1

Here in australia it goes for about 500 and sounds great. Not prestige equiptment or anything, baut its got great build and quality and sounds good too. ive been happy with it

I bought it off a mate for $200 so for me it was a steal.

The Crown d-75 was what i was initiallly interested in. But however it went for about $1700 Australian. uh oh... no thanks.

Best of Luck Mate, Hope you Find something soon enough.

There is an NS-10 'fansite' that lists all NS-10 related sales/auctions... You can find some good deals on there... I bought a pair, listed as broken, for $250 bones.... Not bad at all, seeing as how the tweeters/crossovers were fine, just one blown woofer... And replacement parts are cheap, got a pair of NOS woofers for $100.... So $350 for a great set of monitors ain't bad!

I'll try and find that site for you guys, has some good history and info on them also...

Edit- That was easy- http://www.ns-10.net/

Well I swooped those Ns10's today and the speakers look brand new and there in great condition as well. I'm wondering if the speakers have been replaced but there a matching pair. Yea they came from post production studio here in Michigan. They do like commercials and stuff so not music related they said. I guess the new engineer did not like ns10's so they just wanted to get rid of them. Thank you new engineer!

Well I honestly can not wait to get a power amp now and get these in the fold....

Thanks again guys :Smokin:

And replacement parts are cheap, got a pair of NOS woofers for $100

that's odd, i've heard a lot of stuff about the woofers being expensive to replace, with the whole thing about how they had to stop making them because they ran out of the wood pulp

PS - fuck you dude...
