Oh yeah! A subject I know something about!

Anyone remember a band called Witchcross? They never made it to cd, but you can still pick up the vinyl copy here and there. That singer from Wolf reminds me of Witchcross's singer, especially in the song Evil Star.

How about another band that never made it to cd; 3rd Stage Alert, produced by Yngwie Malmsteen. (Okay, this technically isn't NWOBHM, but same time period)

Other (somehwat) rare but valuable gems for me:

Demon - Unexpected Guest, Night of the Demon, The Plague
Picture - Diamond Dreamer, Eternal Dark
FIST - Thunder in Rock
Mama's Boys - Turn It Up
Quartz - Against All Odds
Raven - All For One
Tygers of Pan Tang - Spellbound
Witchfinder General - Friends of Hell
Rock Goddess - Hell Hath No Fury
Grim Reaper - See You in Hell
TNT - Knights of New Thunder

Definately Witchfinder General....definately.
Tokyo Blade had a very up and down history but had one fantastic old-school record called Night Of The Blade. I still listen to that.

Not really NWOBHM bands, are they ? Picture is from Holland and TNT is Scandinavian (Norway if I'm correct)...

Heya, don't forget LEGEND, they were about the first band that made some very good metal with Folk influences. Beats Wuthering Heights in any way !! Their albums were re-released on CD a while ago.

hm yes bands that sound like nwobhm is another thing. but picture would fit in then. anyways:

great and some of it obscure nwbohm:

Angelwitch - if you say nwobhm you say angelwitch
Aragorn (black ice is a killer!)
ARC
Atomkraft (you have to get queen of death for sure)
Badger
Bitches Sin (made great songs, always ready for love in special)
Blitzkrieg - EVERYTHING, brian ross is god
Chateaux
Cloven Hoof - first albums, classics!
Crucifixion - personal favorite!!
Cynic (suicide 7’’)
Damascus – I recommend ‘open your eyes’ ep
Demon (who doenst know those? Not 100% nwobhm but great nonetheless)
Demon Pact – very extraordinairy nwobhm band, raw vocals
Denigh – I love this band! Np way 7’’ kicks ass
Desolation Angels – many love them, I find them boring, try them anyway
Diamond Head – classic
Elixir – superb band! Seen them live a few times too, amazgin
Fist – best album is turn the hell on (btw this band has the best logo ever)
Gaskin – Damn im seeing them next year I cant wait!! I’m no fool classic song!
Grim Reaper – SEE YOU IN HELL. All time favorite.
Hell – hate it or love it I guess. leans against speed aswell, nice combo. Quite occult sound
Holocaust – cant be left out
Jaguar – ditto (lose yourself in the dutch connectioooon!)
Le Griffe – rather rare but great
Legend – why didn’t these men get famous?
Lone Wolf
Mammoth includes samson members. I like samson better
Marz – nice! Obsucre! Same goes for band below
More
Pagan Altar – I hate this band but that’s because I hate doom. I do love Witchfinder General though.
Pariah – not entirely nwobhm. But I have to name them since it’s a heavy band with lots of members from satan in it. Also tysondog’s vocalist. Check it out!
Praying Mantis – another nbwohm classic.I like Time Tells No Lies best.
Raven – well..rock untill you drop.
Sabre – rare nwobhm band, nice one though. (PS if anyone owns mp3s by the US Sabre please contact me!)
Samson – don’t know them very well but shock tactics is nice.
Saracen – Heroes saints and fools is a fucking masterpiece! Maybe not the nwobhm youre used to, but their rock influence fits in perfectly.
Satan – brian ross brian toss! Court in the act! Great, but I prefer blitzkrieg still
Spartan Warrior – killer band
Stormtrooper – pride before a fall is rare, but definitely worth looking for
Tank – raw, filthy heave nwobhm. I love filth hounds of hades!!
Tokyo Blade – Both the same titles album and ‘Night of the blade’ is a musthave for nwobhm fan.
Turbo – stallion 7’’ is cute
Tygers of Pan Tang – love potion number 9! Guys are still around and rocking still. Although new album seems disappointing
Vardis - easy nwobhm. I like them a lot
Vermillion – nwobhm with females for a change. Not really great, but well, theyre women so they rock anyway haha.
Virtue – we stand to fight 7’’ = heaven
Wikkyd Vikker - I always write this band name wrong. Good, not very special.
Witchfynde – GOD great band, Give em hell! Live is fantastic too!!
Wolf – there are two wolfs.. the edge of the world one have nice songs other wolf only released a 7’’ called see them running. The only two songs they made are amazing though!

Oh my god this post got out of hand. Ah well, nwobhm is my addiction lets say, and this istn half of it yet! If you want/need anything on mp3 or whatever, feel free to add me on msn or mail me.. I’m on Direct Connect a lot too.
Cheers!

Legend. Yeah, I heard these guys for the first time recently. They never (apparently) really got off the island where they hail from....but I was blown away by there stuff. They have a new album out too, and it's old-school.....but updated. Good stuff. Real good.

Indeed, but I have been thinking about the subject a lot and especially today while hearing H Bomb. They are French but their music was a lot what bands where playing at the same time in England. So if technically NWOBHM apllies to British bands, some bands outside UK played the same type of music (also called traditional heavy metal in some sites :Smug: ) during the same years (roughly 1980-85).

Ansd since somebody unleashed Griffin, I have no bands to post

Yeah, I had a hard time with this when I was compiling that short list. If you ONLY count the bands that were actually from England, it would be a much shorter list to choose from. I mean, Raven was from Germany, Mama's Boys from Ireland, but they are still considered NWOBHM. To me, any band playing that style of metal that came from Europe should be considered NWOBHM.

In which case I could've added a bunch more bands like 220 Volt, Pretty Maids, Europe, etc etc.

This band called Legend is folk metal? Someone said "better than Wuthering Heights". This I need to check out. What are some album names, links, or mp3 samples?

Here's a link to their official website. They just recently got back together to make another record, and lo and behold, they are still pretty damned good. Very much "classic" stuff; riffage and whatnot. Some downloads there of the new stuff - streams of old stuff. Beware, the production on the old stuff is sub-par, but everybody I ever knew who liked them agreed that their stuff was good enough to overcome that. You'll see what I mean....

Thanks Wiz, appreciate the direct linkage. Listening to song samples now. It's good, but the sound samples suck so bad it's hard to tell. They have a bit of early prog to them sometimes, and I like that.

But where's the folk influences Carnut was speaking of? There were some mellow interludes and such, but nothing really "folk".

Certainly couldn't see where he could compare it with Wuthering Heights in that category.

There are no samples of the "Death in the nursery" album. That definitly has a folk "sound" to it, not as pronounced as Wuthering Heights has, but vocals on that one give a real "folk" feeling.

You can download Eden Massacre there. New, but full song and good. Just cool to hear some old-school from an old-school band. It doesn't really cover the folky stuff though.

Check my NWOBHM share on 'SoulSeek' - Vadim10000.
I'll thank eternally if somebody can share lossless NWOBHM albums in FLAC, APE, or SHN format.
