O/T Pantera

I myself really liked "Reinventing the Steel", "Revolution is my name", "I cast a shadow", "Belong to it", "Goddam Electric"! Good stuff, but from the looks of the general opinion around here I may be outnumbered!

Oh well!

Cheerz!

Vulgar is def theire best , no doubt about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put this one in a poll and I will be the winner!!!!!!!!!!
Trendkill is nothing but noise, no melody at all.
Melody and big chorus thats what I like about Pantera.

Dutchy...weren't you listening to the wrong album? Trendkill is nothing but noise, no melody? You REALLY mean the album with the SNAKE on the cover? Are you serious? Then maybe you should take a deep listen at least to these tracks: Suicide Note pt1, Floods, 10s, and then post once more. Cheers!

pantera did stay true galvatron, and is it just me or is everything you ever say disagreed on by the majority of the board
I don't care if people disagree with me if I say water is wet. I have facts on my side you don't. Pantera is one of the worst examples of "staying true", and that is a fact. End of disscusion.

Pantera definately did NOT stay true. Personally I couldn't care less and I think Power Metal is an excellent album and absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

The albums before.........well thats a different story. Without Phil they couldn't cut it, but as far as dimebags (or should i say diamond :D ) playing is concerned and the general musicianship/songwriting, those albums are pretty good too. Lots of bands evolve over time, I don't see why Pantera are ashamed of their past. But for Phil to go on and on and on about staying true is basically laughable to me.

I got em all,metal magic,i am the night,projects in the jungle,power metal.

When u think of the there first few albums these guys were bout 15 16 years old emulating there idles whos music they grew up on
van halen,kiss,def leppard for example.

I dont think any musician finds his sound that early on,it takes years to find your own style!!!

and as for the way they dressed people seem to forget that slayer in there early days dressed like 70's rockstars.

Pantera...hmmm... I used to like 'em.
"Cowboys.." is my favorite. it was my first album i heard from 'em. it was high school. Good memories with that album :)
"Vulgar..." a close second. Great album.
"Far Beyond Driven" - ehhh starting to get the ol' "well, we fuckin got heavy on Vulgar...lets just scream alot more and play faster" stage...decent
"Great Southern..." - "well, we gotta be heavier so lets scream even more and play even faster again! it'll be HEAVY!"...bleh...this album sucked imo
"Reinventing..." - "shit, we can't play faster and i'm sick of screaming so damn much, lets make a decent album this time" Not bad, but not great.

who cares what they did before cowboys. there are alot of bands who don't have un-blemished or goofy pasts. At the time, glam metal was big, hell, alot of "true" metal bands used cosmetics (i consider hairspray a cosmetic... )

on a side note tho...Down plain out rocks. I saw Pepper Keenan in a hole-in-the-wall poolhall here when he was on tour with C.O.C. hehe cool guy

@megajon, who sings on the albums before "cowboys", is Phil, never seen those album's in any store, I only read about them in magazines

Terry Glaze or Terence Lee (same guy but 2 names, spooky) was the vocalist on Metal Magic, I am the Night and Projects in the Jungle. You can't get the albums in the shops anymore which is a damn shame but u can find them online if u look hard enough.

I agree Pantera make great albums but does anyone else agree they are poor live?

Let me make a few points before anyone screams at me...

1. Phil talks so much about nothing relevant, they could have put another three songs in their set.
2. Phils talking takes away the intensity. They play a blinding couple of songs and then talk nonsense for ten minutes before deciding to play again.
3. With only having one guitarist, and one who likes to show off at that when he is playing lead the sound dies and it takes them the rest of the song to get back into it?

Don't agree AT ALL. But I've seen them only once. And it was like listening 2 the record.

I have all the albums from Cowboys and beyond. Vulgar was the best IMO. The more recent albums I find I have to be in the right mood, as the screaming can wear on me if I'm not. I found that Down II blew away anything that Pantera has done recently, mainly because Anselmo actually tries singing again.

I agree Vulgar display of Power is without a doubt theier best album but the Reinventing the Steel is also a classic metal album. I also dont agree with the comments made about Pantera's live shows. They were one of the best live bands i have ever seen.
