O/T Pantera

I do agree they are great when they are pounding through tracks but its all the messing about and the metal is not dead stuff that gets me! If metal was dead PANTERA would NOT be playing headline gigs and selling Cds.

Surely it should be obvious to Mr Anselmo that he does not have to preach to 20odds year old metal fans about the scene, we buy the magazines, post on the message boards and buy the CDS!

Just pisses me off that he talks so much when they could be playing songs and in the end we miss out songs we came to see.

I have seen Pantera live five times and each time the same complaint is voiced by the fans. Maybe in the US this is more the done thing but in Glasgow all you can hear is people shouting back at them " play a song!!!!"

Yeah Phil sure is a character, last time they toured Australia there sound was crystal clear and very very fucking loud.

I actually enjoy the 10-15 mins of Phil carrying on and interacting with the crowd,it pisses me off a bit when u see alot of bands and the singer doesnt even acknowledge the crowd.

James Hetfield is a great example of getting the crowd involved.

by the way phil was so wasted hehhehe strange that

Phil was wasted? No way! You must be kidding me. Next time you'd tell me Rob Halford is gay and Kiss don't care of their fans! :D

I saw this thread about pantera and thought i had to read and reply. Ok firstly i love pantera. I think musically wise they just churn out the riffs and they are great musicians that give their heart to it. Call that bollox but thats what i believe. I have all their albums basically and love everyone. As for the live thing, i wouldnt no coz i aint had the opportunity to see them, but if 101 proof is nething to go by, then their live set sounds amazing.

I didn't listen to their albums prior to "Cowboys" but seems to me that a lot of people think that they're good, eventhough not ground-breaking albums...

As for my two cents, I think that musically, "Cowboys from hell" was their best outing with "Vulgar" coming in strong second... "Cowboys" has some better singing and better solos, while "Vulgar" is just sheer power and is really brutal - the songs are more brutal I think...
However, I bought "Reinventing" and I was disappointed a little bit because Dimebag doesn't even solo at all and the songs are nothing new really - we've heard it all before... Pantera have to be respected for one thing though: they go out and play very heavy music, not caring whether they sell cd's or not - just doing what they feel like, and in the end, isn't that what metal is all about?

Everything on the first three "real" Pantera albums are great(which are CFH, VDOP, and FBD), but the next couple of albums have a couple great songs on each. But the live album is definetly my favorite Pantera album. :D And like NAF said, Down II has blown away the past two Pantera albums because Phil trys to sing. He's a great fucking singer, and I just don't get why he doesn't sing more than he does.
