Wow, look at that. People are just naming random obscure bands...
Well, the one of the best bands I have EVER heard is Freak Kitchen...
Fucking awesome band out of Sweden. They really don't have a genre, but their lyrics are really good. They can be funny as hell and really serious at the same time. Plus, the guitaring is really really original and cool. Sometimes Matthius (the guitarist/vocalist) uses a vibrator on the strings to get obscure sounds during recording...

Windir and Forgotten Tomb!!!
Theese two really made an impression on me and proves that the best black metal is not in norway any more and by far something you will find in the mainstream!
Oh yeah and Abyssic Hate which is awesome! Suicidal Emotions is probably the best black metal album I've bought for ages. I'm trying to get hold of the newest FT and Windir albums as well! Go listen to them if you haven't all ready! They'll blow you away!

Master's Hammer, as someone already mentioned. They are an absolute underground cult for those who know them, many famous old Norwegian black metal bands were influenced by them... I wonder if those bands have any idea about what Master's Hammer sing about... ;-) They are taking the piss out of Satanism and black metal poseurs and yet they are THE black metal for me and for many other.
Other bands that are in my top ten (if not top five) include The 3rd And The Mortal, Brodequin (if they can be counted as obscure) and Elend (not really metal but powerful dark, suicidal music). Lykathe Aflame are excellent too but they just changed name to Lykathe and they got a female vocalist... we'll see what happens with them.
