He spends a lot of time on getting amazing sounds to begin with..

We tuned the snare drum after every take (roughly lol).

One thing I don't think a lot of metal producers understand is that tuning your drums to the music is very good. Listen to the pre pro, tune the drums accordingly then fine tune them.

We spent a day and a half on drum prep/micing/shootouts alone, so we put very meticulous work into the drum tones.

Is he mixing ITB?

Not sure yet.. He just made a few hybrid racks so I highly doubt that
