Says about all you need to know. But in the product description they actually praise the scooped tone. I bet you it'll sound shitty.

As far as amps go, I haven't tried either of those, so I have no advice for you.
The Lee Jackson looks pretty good.

Definitely get the power conditioner, regardless of what your set up is. Believe me, most clubs are set up with industrial power and can fry an amp just by plugging it into the wall if the current isn't regulated properly. The last thing you need is a power spike frying a delicate tube amplifier because you'll then be doing what my little blue friend here is doing: .

Any bass can be a good metal bass with the right strings. Doesn't take much to get a good metal tone.

I've heard the Fender P-Bass sound like crap for any form of music and absolutely un-Metal in the hands of the untrained.

With Metal, it helps to scoop out some of the middle area of the sound so you're not competing with the guitars and vocals.

Most usually go with the sound of the Ampeg driving an 8x10 cabinet, but you're looking at a hefty price tag, as well as a lot of weight for that gear. Personally, I would run my 5-string into a Carvin 1000 watt bi-amped system with a 4x10 top and an 18 inch subwoofer. I never had any complaints with my system. :kickass:

My bassist plays a p-bass, sounds pretty punchy. Not really un-metal at all. If you play death metal you might want to look elsewhere, though. The P-Bass has a great sound in general.

under 600? try these
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Conklin-GT4-4String-Bass?sku=512700 (best bang for your buck. ash body will give you defined tone while the wenge/purpleheart neck adds depth and growl. i have the 7 string version)
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Stiletto-Studio4-Bass?sku=516752
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-SR500-Soundgear-4String-Bass?sku=515055 (i really like this one. really easy to play)

and as for amps, ive got different tastes than most metal bass players, so i wont reccomend one.

I'm really starting to get sick of the way those basses look =/

I respect the craftsmanship and playability and sound, of course, but they just look fucking retarded in my opinion. Not very metal.

You can get the same things as those basses, quality, playability, sound/electronics, as well as an awesome refined but still awesome look with a Jackson CMG bass, which on ebay is a tad shy of $700.

sound and playability are more important than looks. my dean rhapsody looks pretty fruity, but it sounds hella metal.

I just don't understand why all of the uber high quality super expensive basses are made in that general body style, it looks so dumb and ugly to me. Is it a trend or something? Probably.

they arent always. just find the guitar porn thread for proof of that! alot of high end basses are single cut designs

oh, and that jackson is a generic strat/p bass body. and its alder w/ a maple neck, and will sound like every other mass produced bass since the 50s.

So?

Not everyone's pretentious.

you were commenting on how all these basses look the same. not only does that jackson look like 75% of basses ever made, but it sounds like it too.

I wouldn't care if they looked the same if they weren't ugly >.>
