And thus the Lord of the Rings trilogy is the best trilogy ever. I do have a lot of complaints about this movie though. Peter Jackson changed way too much, this is a list of my complaints (that I can remember):
How did the Palantir end up in the water?
Having Treebeard guard Sauruman was a pretty lame was to leave him out of the film. Oh well I suppose it was just to cut time.
The Palantir is not a magnet.
Why did Golum have to talk to himself again, wasting time telling us the SAME thing he told us in the end of the Two Towers, about leading them to Shelob and such. Waste of screentime.
Why did Frodo send Sam away? He never would have done such a thing!
The whole Cirith Ungol part seemed rushed.
Who was that big melty looking orc supposed to be?
Why did Gandalf have to beat up Denethor? Gandalf would never have done such a thing!
Denethor 's character seemed to be made into a pig, without any honour whatsoever. It was he who ordered his own execution, not running off being a human fireball.
How come the battles of Pellenor Fields were so bright? Tolkien knew dark times called for dark skies.
Legolas and Gimili's counting gimick was repeated, and shouldn't have been, I would rather see something new. Legolas taking down the oliphant was great though.
The dead army reminded me of Pirates of the Carribean.
Why would Theoden's men camp so close to the dead army's lair, without any foreshadowing of what was there or anything like that. Bad scripting. Also, how did Elrond get there so fast. It took the fellowship a damn long time to get that far.
Having physical marks on Frodo's neck from the chain carrying the ring was a very cheesy idea.
Some of the CG looked like I was watching a video game.
When Grond (that big doorbreaker thing) smashed through the gates at Minas Tirith I was expecting to see Gandalf face the Witch King. One of my favorite parts of the books. Instead a bunch of trolls jump in like a team of football players. Boo!
The twist ending, where BOTH Frodo AND Golum fall off the crack at mount doom was stupid. I can see how it was nice to show Sam saving Frodo, reaching his arm down the same way Frodo saved Sam from drowning in The Fellowship, but the original ending is perfect. Gollum gets the ring, is so happy he victory dances right off the cliff, thats the dramatical irony right there.
When Golum finally fell in the lava, he looked way to happy for someone disintegrating into molten lava!
The ending where everyone comes to visit Frodo at his bed, seemed way too long, Gandalf didnt even know what to do with his hands! hah!
Well that's about all that I can remember. It would have been cool to see the house of healing, and Faramir and Eowen getting together a bit more, but I guess I will wait (and count the days) for the Extended Edition.
-end rant-
Best movie of the year, if just a little bit of a dissapointment for me.
