Ok,whoever is going to the show tonight, report back here once you are home and tell everything.

Oh,and bootleg the fucker:hotjump:

i can't wait, i'm for T.O in an hour because i'm shopping for a multieffects pedal, and i am showing up early to get autohraphs and pics, and i'll do a full review tommrow

I'm back.. they played all of damnation, face of melinda(finale), benighted, to bid you farewell.. and a cover... this should be the surprise.. so i'm not going to tell you

i met up with all the guys and shook their hands.. all of their signatures are on the back of my ticket !!!.. i was about to give martin lopez a joint to chill with, but some guy broke out a pipe, so i just told martin that this was for him to smoke on the road. these were his words - "you are a beautiful man, on the inside, you are beautiful"... cool...

so i chilled with him and my friend for a while, and then went inside to check out porcupine tree.. they had a wicked show.. but after steve broke his string 2 songs in a row, he got fuckin pissed and left.. it was good while it lasted..

now for the rest of you to tell me what u did

edit :i fucked up with martin's last name,.. shit

damn i hope someone makes a bootleg during this tour .. i wanna hear damnation and other songs ( especially face of melinda and to bid you farewell)

btw does anyone know Porcupine Tree's set list???

I'm not a huge PT fan, but i know they played
- Sound of Muzac
- Strip the Soul
- Blackest Eyes
- Trains
- Heartattack In A Lay By
- Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth Before It Is Recycled

... the rest were new to me
I missed the beginning of the set, but I didn't hear them play Shesmovedon, Pure Narcotic or Feel So Low, which are my favourites.

Opeth was fucking great. To Bid You Farewell, Benighted and Face of Melinda... GOD. The first times they were played for a live audience EVER.

I only got signatures off the Martins ,but they were really nice. I left my weed at home, or else i woulda offered it to them for sure. When I went out to get them to sign they were smoking a joint with some fans.

I was the really tall guy with short redish hair, i was wearing a plain dark grey shirt and black jeans. I was with a short girl whith dark hair wearing a light blue shirt with clouds on it. We both stood out like sore thumbs cause of how we were dressed, but i probably stood out even more due to my height.... I was a head taller than almost everyone in there.

Great show, I love those guys. They're truly great in every way. Steven Wilson's a hell of a guitarist too.

Opeth's set last night was nothing short of an amazing experience. Having only seen Opeth once prior to last night, I had only the D1 tour to compare (though most shows before this tour were roughly the same, right?), but the D2 tour could easily blow anything else away.

We were treated to a somewhat more talkative Mikael than usual, who reminded us several times that he was "fucking nervous", and then corrected that to "scared, not nervous. Also, there was a 5th stage member, whose name I didn't catch, but who sang all the backup and played keys for all the songs (even for some that didn't need keys)

They played the entire Damnation album, then after the short break, Benighted, To Bid You Farewell, the "unnamed cover", and Face of Melinda, which I didn't expect at all.

The audience was incredibly supportive of the band as they played 12 songs never before heard live (am I right?) nearly flawlessly. In many cases sounding better than the album - they extended a few sections to include a guitar change, which sounded amazing on Closure.

For Weakness, Peter/Martin/Martin left the stage, then after the break, Mikael came out ALONE to play Benighted, later joined by the others to finish it off and play the solo. He said he was most nervous about Benighted, and seemed overcome with joy when the band picked it up perfectly near the end.

The show allowed to see the Damnation (and others..) songs from another angle. Mikael was particularly emotional in his singing, and his clean voice (though that's all we heard) was strong and moving.

To Bid You Farewell was described as "fucking boring to play".. I'm glad they made that sacrifice for an audience surely appreciative of their song-choice (and what a song choice :D).

Had I known anyone with a camera could come in, I would have blown a few rolls of film - but all we had was a little digital - I'll post some pics later on (like I said last time, right?). I have no idea what the other venues will be like on this tour, but this sit-down idea wasn't too bad. Much like an old movie theatre, asses were sore for the ride home, but that's to be expected.

My only regret is not being able to stay for Porcupine Tree - two members of my entourage were anxious to get home - I made sure I got a handshake and an autograph from Mikael - though smoking a joint with Martin/Martin would have been great too.

I suppose to summarize (there's lots I haven't told), the evening was amazing - I had a great time watching an amazing band play incredible songs incredibly well.

And I'd do it all again in Montreal if I wasn't working.

Thanks Mikael, Peter, Martin and Martin. (and extra keyboardist whose name I missed)

I'd love to read other opinions too!

It was my 4th time seeing Opeth, and my 4th time grabbing pics of them... My review is going to be a little bit more critical/nit-picky about a couple of things - overall impression though was around the lines of "Whoa!"

Keyboardist - IIRC, Per Wiberg from Spiritual Beggars does backup vocals and keys duties for teh show - on the whole, very well... Although, the first musical repeat through Face of Melinda, something was off where the keys filled some of the guitar parts but, to his credit, this was corrected the next repeat through.

Lighting - Sometimes good, sometimes piss-poor - Porcupine Tree had WAY better lighting - Opeth's banner got in the way, being situated in front of a lot of the stage lighting, while the almost constant use of unfiltered spots tended to diminish the overall effect of the filtered stage lights - visually, Porcupine Tree trumped Opeth...
Also, you couldn't see Lopez - he was hidden behind his kit, off to the side.

But, it was still a great show, despite Mikael being nervous and swearing more than I've ever heard him swear before, which is to say, at all. It was also nice to be able to go to a show and not need earplugs...

Porcupine Tree was phenomenal. Awesome light show, cool multimedia show behind the band, MUCH louder than Opeth... I really wish I'd had more than a single roll of film devoted to them, but, such are the breaks - we shall see how my pics turn out.

Oh, and there was some debate as to whether Steve Wilson plays barefoot or in socks...

But, for Shaded Life who said "Steve Wilson broke a string 2 songs in..." you missed the vast majority of their set.

As for bootlegs - I know that there was a camcorder running for the entire Opeth set - I've heard rumours of an official DVD coming out of this tour, so, keep your eyes and ears open.
