Official "Who Should Replace Volbeat?" Thread

Also not wanting to sound like a dick, but he could move down due to half the venue leaving last time he was on stage...

I can't make any suggestions until I'm done grieving, but I never pass up a chance to defame Jorn's solo career. Anyone that records a show that ran half the house off and releases it on their own instead of participating in the festival DVD... ugh... get outta here with that talk.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!

NR was the first band that came to mind when I started thinking about a replacement. They are great live, and they've been one of those bands that somehow hasn't managed to play Prog Power yet.

You were at Powerfest 06 werent you Brit? I think I initially met you then because I was baffled by your Favre jersey that is black.

You know, this is a band I think I could totally dig at PPUSA IX. I've never seen them. They've been around a long time. They have a tidy following of fans. I think they'd do well.

As far as other bands go, I'd be down for Kiuas, Evil Masquerade, Zero Hour, and Primordial.
Primordial would be wild, but I think they are a stretch for Prog Power. I can't see that one happening.

Kiuas on the other hand might fit in.

Devin Townsend!!!!

we need a visit from Ziltoid!

I'd be allllllllllll over this. Like that's a surprise to anyone. :)

--And sure, Devy is semi-retired from live performances. A one-off show, howeverrrrrrr.......

It would certainly be awesome if Devin would at least make an appearance though I wouldn't bet on it :-/

Otherwise, a band I have not seen mentioned: Orphaned Land!

I'm very curious to know what's up with them. At Porcupine Tree's most recent show here, I asked Steven Wilson about producing the next Orphaned Land album, and he told me -- with evident regret -- that after initial contacts, OL hadn't gotten back to him about it. :waah:

Other bands I'd fuckin love to see....and bands that 'make sense' from a Glenn viewpoint:

Cynic
Brainstorm
Vintersorg
Nocturnal Rites
Opeth (maybe with a slot swap)
Superior (maybe with a slot swap)

umm....

Ayreon (just seeing if you're paying attention... )

My picks:

Type O Negative (Hey he wanted an "odd ball" band and TON would certianly be odd for that scene.)

Or

Mercenary

(Yeah I know I mention it every time...)

And my last two picks, well they are already playing.

-Metal

I thought about Mercenary too but with the slot, it'd be somewhat of a step down compared to their last appearance. I missed that PP though so I'd be all for their return.

You were at Powerfest 06 werent you Brit? I think I initially met you then because I was baffled by your Favre jersey that is black.
Yeah, I was there ... thought Nocturnal Rites was incredible.

As for the Favre jersey ... I wore it at prog power last year .. I think it was the first fest I'd worn it to. A lot of people didn't get it ... it was a replica of Favre's college jersey from Southern Miss. With it being black I thought it was kind of metal in a way.

woah, forgot about Anubis Gate and Machine Men (and speaking of Finland, Ari Koivunen).

--And a bunch of other great bands that I'll remember in...about two hours. Volbeat's cancellation sucks, but there are doubtless a LOT of bands who would LOVE to play PPUSA. Hell, Glenn has a pile of emails to choose from ALREADY. :)

I would just love it if Running Wild were added especially since their new album would be out around this time but I would think they would be atleast a number four if not a headliner. If Running Wild cannot happen my vote goes to Brainstorm, Nocturnal Rites or Morgana Lefay... maybe even Tad Morose if they have their shit together by then.

Glenn,

I'm not sure if you're really a fan of this type of music, but there are some pretty interesting instrumental bands that would be a great addition to the festival. Two bands that come to mind who fit the "oddball slot" would be Dysrhythmia and Behold...The Arctopus. If you were to push most of Saturday's bands up a slot and give one of these bands one of the first two slots of the evening, it could prove interesting. There isn't another band like Volbeat, but you could still throw a curveball at the audience. Those are my two cents, anyway. I wish you the best of luck.

Stay metal. Never rust.
