Old school death metal mix

I'm pretty new to recording/mixing but I would appreciate some pointers if anyone has some time.

This song was written in about 2 hours (hence the poor bass playing) and the rhythm tracks are a quick guide for potential drummers.

Pretty limited gear wise at the moment, but I will be investing in more equipment before my main band starts recording our second album

This sounds no where near old school to me. The guitar tone has way too much mids for my taste. Try backing off on the mids. After doing that see if you'd wanna increase the presence a bit. Chop away a little of the 160-250 area to accommodate the snare + reduce the mud. Keep it subtle. And once again, no offence - The song may be old school, but the mix is not.

I'll come back later and comment on the drums. Unless someone here comments first, that is.

Thanks for the pointers, in hindsight I should have titled the thread "old school death metal song"

I'll work on it over the next couple of days and hopefully get another mix posted soon

it does sound kinda old school songwriting wise but the drums are killing the old school atmosphere... =(
