is simply fucking brilliant. ;)

Silent Downfall.. to me your observation is very wrong...
Burzum has lots of melody, so does Satyricon and Emperor...
Enslaved (more viking), Thorns, old Ulver (Bergtatt is great),
the debut from Arcturus-very much so.. and lots of others.
Perhaps you should try out The Shadowthrone by Satyricon for
example...it's got a lot of melodic folk in it mixed with black..

I guess what u would call pure black metal is Darkthrone etc?
Mayhem? But I find they have quite a bit of melody too, perhaps
not always that very distinct, but it's there..
It doesn't have to be like prog metal/rock etc to be melodic (just
making an example here). Melodies are just much more clear in
that kinda music, and often more entwined within black metal..so
u kinda have to get the know the music sometimes to hear that.
For example on Mayhem - De Mysteriis the bass is quite cool and
plays some really catchy stuff sometimes (even though it isn't all
that super technical), but few notices this at first...

I would have said Emperor had they not put out the excreble atrocity that is IX Equilibrium....I DESPISE that album.....anyways, Anthems was OK and Prometheus and Nightside were excellent.


I'm one of the few who is probably more likely to put on Night of the Graveless Souls than any other song by them, though!

As for Satyricon, they are OK...nothing special IMO...and I can't stand their new commercial attitude...

oh come on...isnt that the album on which the guy called attila (tries to) sings?
im sorry but i find mayhem to be one of the worst black metal bands and the most overrated black metal band. they are just famous for all those killings and church burnings.
 
No, really. Their music has some genuine feeling that I love...
U just have to get into it.. During the years I've learned to like it
more and more and more.

And don't even think I'm just about as fan of Emperor,
Darkthrone ... as Mayhem.. because I am. I worship every
Emperor album... Ix a little less, but u know
 
Opinions are great :great:

I find Dissection great as well. Absolutely. Storm... is a classic,
and The Somberlain is great as well... oh yes.

Acutally it's been a long time since I heard The Somberlain!
Since I don't have the album myself.. but I remember hating that
acoustic part where they obviously play wrong at one or two
occations... more about this anyone?
