i have recently discovered that i can actually be satisfied in eating smaller amounts of food.

In college, i was always eating super size meals or whatever was largest because i felt "hey i am a big guy and need to eat alot of food" but now i can eat smaller meals and be satisfied. For example when we go to the icream parlour here in Boston I used to always get a waffle cone with three scoops. Now I find I get it with only one and it is compeltely fine as is.

Now if only I could find time to get more exercise in besides my daily walks to and from my transportation to work i might actually lose this annoying gut i have.

I am very pleased at myself for not becoming morbidly obese because based on how much i used to eat and how lazy i used to be that could very well have been something that could have happened to me.

YES. I came to this realisation myself a year or two ago. My big problem was I'd always clean my plate because I'd paid for the food, even if I was full. But I'd be out the same five bucks whether i ate the whole thing or stopped with some left, anyway, right?

Also, I would stop halfway through my meal and have a cigarette, which let the food "settle" and I'd get full five or ten minutes AFTER I stopped eating. That got rid of that post-meal "stuffed" feeling and also helped me eat a lot less.

well, yeah, but smoking isn't as bad as having a huge swinging gut!

anyway, once i stopped smoking i'd already learned the habit of stopping before i'm full and that the fullness would come, so it stuck.

i think i'd rather have a few extra lbs than black lungs, a higher risk for lung cancer, and smell like tar, but that's just me. at least you stopped; what my gf's mom is going through right now is something no one should do to themselves (cancerous tumor removal surgery).

but yeah, learning to know when to say when on anything is good; moderation is key.

I almost always eat until I feel like crap. If I make up some mac & cheese I have to eat it all. Frozen pizza, well you can't throw any of that away. Wasting food doesn't seem right, like wasting beer. No matter how drunk you are you need to finish that last beer before you can leave.
