I recently got an mp3 from a band called Vintersorg. The song was called the The Thesis's Seasons from the album The Focusing Blur. I love that mp3 like it were my child. It's the most interesting music I've heard in a while. What I am wondering: have any of you heard Vintersorg, and what albums are their best?

Although Viking Metal and, more general, everything connected to Black/Extreme/whatever Metal isn't really my cup of tea, I really enjoy Vintersorg from time to time... just his newer, spaced-out stuff, of course.
I'd recommend "The Focusing Blur", which features a lot of absolutely crazy tracks next to "The Thesis's Season". It's REALLY exhausting, though, at least for my ears... not only due to its bleak heaviness, more because's there so freakin' much going on! String sets, black-ish chainsaw riffs, organ swells, electronic loops and effects, hectic percussion (by Asgeir Mickelson), jazzy bass (by Steve DiGiorgio!)...whew!

I've heard Borknagar. I actually have their first album. A friend told me that he thoguht they were like Arcturus, and I had spare money, so I bought their first album. I wasn't impressed. It was just screaming over crunchy guitars. My friend may have been referring to different albums, or maybe he's just stupid.

I will buy the Focusing Blur.

I must ask, before I buy the Focusing Blur: what are the vocals like? If they are generally the way the sound on The Thesis's Season, I'll get it, but if it sounds too much like Borknagar screaming, I won't. I've only heard one Vintersorg song, so I'm not qualified to judge the vocals yet...

Your friend is referring to Arcturus' earlier black metal material. The first Borknagar album is much much harsher than subsequent releases. In general, each Borknagar album has gotten less black metal and more progressive. "Empiricism" is my personal favorite, and it's very easy on the ears IMO.

Well fuck. It sounds like I just bought the wrong album. I absolutley HATE the first Borknagar album. I guess I can give Empricism a shot though.. I almost bought it. I fucking should have researched it first. Oh well.

But only a matter of days remain until I have the Focusing Blur!!!
