Opeth album sales

SPOILER ALERT:
Hot Topic Opeth picture isn't real.

I pity those wo took it for real.

And yes, there was a thread like this a while ago. We were wondering how many albums Opeth has sold worldwide. Speculations were around 1 million +, but there isn't really any way to confirm the numbers, atleast not that I know of.

I know In Flames have sold their one millionth album with Come Clarity (don't remember where I know that from). It was their 8th studio album, and overall I think In Flames is more popular than Opeth. So I don't think Opeth could have sold 1 million albums at the moment.

we also once had a topic where members could ask their questions ... it was because someone was going to interview them and offered this opportunity to the forum.

and i pretty much doubt in flames sold those 1 million copies in the states alone ... either it is worldwide sold, or it is from all their albums put together maybe.

"Swedish metallers OPETH have sold more than 19,000 copies of their new album, "Watershed", in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart."

In Flames:
"A Sense of Purpose" (Koch) shifted 20,000 copies in the United States during its first week of release. Billboard position: #28. This is slightly less than the opening tally of "Come Clarity" (Ferret), which sold just under 24,000 copies in February 2006 to debut at position No. 58."

So, as you can see In Flames sell more copies in the US, they just faced tougher competition during that period and hence ended up on a lower chart position. BUT, I remember that I was really surprised to see this back in june. Thought the difference would be much much bigger. Go Opeth, go!

Wow, Watershed really made it to number 23 in America? Wow, that's pretty high. I wouldn't have expected that.

#1 in Australia when it came out...that was really strange. I wonder how many people went out and bought it because it was a #1 cd and expected it to be pop music. No but seriously, good on them.

interesting, as Opeth deserve more album sales than almost any band in the world. In Flames have their moments, but Opeth are far more deserving.

^Where did you pick up that bollocks jem haha? #1? The highest they charted is #7. Not saying that isn't bad. The fact they charted in the top 20 is pretty amazing. Opeth>>>>>>In flames by a long shot. Though early in flames is good, what they are doing now is deplorably compared to what Opeth are doing now. That's the chart of each country and it's peak position.

I read in a Metal Hammer that Come Clarity sold like 400 000 copies, which suggests that their overall albums sales are well over one million. Opeth on the other hand, probably have sold about a million records. I think.
