Yeah, it's pathos. It's probably his accent that's confusing you, like in The Drapery Falls, when he says "drowned visions" and it sounds like "drowned vitions"

I hate it when people (not jokingly) speak like that

"on topic" though... in Ghost of Perdition, am I the only one who doesn't think Mike sings "like marked pages in a diary", sounds nothing remotely near it

This also happens on The Baying of the Hounds. The booklet says "calling you to sit by his side" and he says what I'm sure is "point at you to sit by his side"
