Opeth Fanclub In L.A.

I think the whole idea of "doing things for the community" is just absolutely antithetical to the type of person who would be listening to Opeth. Opeth fans, rather than being lazy, are just realistic.

But I think it would be fun to meet people who were into Opeth. I've always liked the idea of a board get-together sometime, somewhere.

But I have no desire to "spread Opeth's message to the masses" or try to change people's perceptions of metal by doing good works. I'm not on a mission -- I'm too busy listening to their music. :p

Well, if anybody deserves a fanclub, it should be OPETH, right?? Don't tell me you don't think they deserve a fanclub.. if freaking Metallica can have a fanclub, why not Opeth who are a million times more worthy of representation?

Precisely because Metallica have a fanclub, Opeth shouldn't have one... if you get my drift. You don't need a friggin fanclub to understand and enjoy the music. What is a fanclub but another pathetic attempt to commercialise music?

Look, nobody has done anything like this before for Opeth, and we all know how much they deserve an organized fanclub. Opeth fans are a rare breed and this would be a cool way to meet other people. Yeah, I know some of you are saying 'meet them at shows' but c'mon, Opeth can't come to your state every single year for your enjoyment due to monetary reasons (Bands even as 'big' as Opeth lose thousands of dollars on tour.)

This is not a teenybopper deal. This is the real thing.

Opeth conventions - gay?
I don't think you get the idea...
You don't get the criticism either. The moment Opeth has a friggin convention in the LA circus, the band will lose a lot of appeal.
What we planned out was we would have like a merchandising/bootleg buying/trading area and then there would be an actual CONCERT of members of L.A. metal bands and guests doing Opeth covers.

We also wanna actually give back to the community, promote the club in a good name and do stuff like fundraisers, food drives, etc. It'll make people think different about our metal bretheren, we can actually DO shit instead of complaining like the general public...
Oh whatever. Food drives, fundraisers... what the fuck? How's Opeth music and the band tied to any of that crap? Metal brethren my ass. If you want to do anything to improve the perceptions... DON'T DO IT.
Although I must say some of the reactons I have seen are pretty typical of such an idea as seen in normal mundane society, but look - this isn't Star Trek or Tiger Beat... this is about metal, about music, about what we love - this is OPETH.
So don't make into a Star Trek. God I knew some moron in LA would come up with such idea. Why don't you pick Dummu Borgir or sth? They'd be more adept to conventions and such.

Okay...

I was talking with Kourosh and we admitted that the only reason why we brought up the commuity deal is for the sake of progress... but who the fuck are we kidding, we're not running for political office, you know? What if we'd drop the 'community' thing altogether [Lina and Wolff, kudos to your observations] and have only the fanclub, the 'bootleg and merchandise trading-gathering' (since 'convention' is such a taboo word), and the annual tribute show?

The aim of the fanclub is to have a resource by which Opeth fans can get to know eachother. We are NOT going to do shit like other fanclubs. We are not going to send out 'official' Opeth stickers, Peter's 'official' guitar picks, Mikael's underwear, or shit like that. This is people based, not thing-based.
This is mainly an organized attempt to have people exchange information about what shows are going to be in the area, who's going with who to what show, bootleg/CD trading among members, organizing parties/bar-b-q's and stuff, organizing bands, and when Opeth do come to L.A., a whole organized event in which we all take part in. Totally fan-based grassroots stuff, no flash, no bullshit. The members are the club.

[I regret to say I still have the feeling that if this news came from the mouth of the almighty www.opeth.com the idea itself would have gotten better treatment... but feelings are all temporary :) ]

Once again, thanks for input and the address for info is

Not so sure. The ides would still be crap, and worthy of abuse.

But regardless, there's not one thing that the club would do that this board is not doing. In other words other than bbq there's no added value to your proposition. Good luck thou.

Whats with a Tribute show? The only people I want to see play Opeth songs are Opeth! And you aren't gonna get any bands to play Opeth songs or even play a tribute show with their own material. Do you not read interviews with Mikael? DO you not read the lyrics? Mikael and the bands outlook is rather misanthropic, therefore the idea of a community get together is antithetical to the point of Opeth. And he said when they start conforming to the standards of commercial music is the day Opeth dies. Are you trying to hurry it along? And whos gonna play a tribute? Your 12 year old brother? And I was just being realistic when I said we should let LA go to hell. 10 Opeth fans aren't going to acheive a goddamned thing. WAKE UP! If anything it sounds like you are forming a group where nu-metal humanists can get together and be "metal".

I wrote 3 replies back... that the L.A. metal bands Seven Door, Tripping Over God, Manifest Beauty, Cypress, Inamorata, and Writhe will play. And what's so bad about that? They rock.

What the fuck? It's only going to be people who are into Opeth, dude. Even lepers need to gather sometime.

Do I have to quote my whole message again? The aim of the fanclub is to have a resource by which Opeth fans can get to know eachother. We are NOT going to do shit like other fanclubs. We are not going to send out 'official' Opeth stickers, Peter's 'official' guitar picks, Mikael's underwear, or shit like that. This is people based, not thing-based.

Totally fan-based grassroots stuff, no flash, no bullshit. The members are the club - PEOPLE WHO ARE INTO OPETH. And those people are NOT nu-metalers as you appear to make it seem so.

Once again, the info address is, for all interested:

One more question: why are you writing on behalf of this Kuroushi clown? Are you his secretary?

So why is your initial message all written in the third case? I smell something fishy here...

No dude, I'm the fucking co-founder of the club.

AND

In establishing the first known Opeth fanclub, he hopes other Opeth fans arobla bla bla

He founded it?
You said so!

If not, shouldn't it say "In co-establishing the first known co-Opeth co-fanco-clun, he co-hopes other opeth co-fans arobla bla co-bla?"
