Opeth Mix

You've got a good friend there. Coming to see a band he's never herad.

Pick one song of each album.

I'd say.

Under the Weeping Moon

To Bid You Farewell

When

White Cluster

The Funeral Portrait

Master's Apprentices

Death Wispered a Lullaby

Reverie/Harequin Forest

And a live track from Lamentations if you can. The Drapery Falls perhaps.

If those songs don't convince someone that Opeth are the best band in the world, nothing will. Apart from seeing them live (ah wonderment).

Thanks a bunch, it will be my first time as well.

Or you could just be a dick and just play your friend all of Damnation (except Closure cause it's just too rocking at the end there) and then maybe Atonement and Hours of Wealth. Then the concert will be fun for you on many levels as you can watch your friend be blown away.

Maybe I missed the boat on this one, but I would say that a good mix would look like this:

Bleak
When
Ghost Of Perdition
A Fair Judgement
Godhead's Lament
The Twilight Is My Robe
Blackwater Park
Deliverance

Also, maybe play him The Grand Conjuration, just so that he appreciates how much better it is live!!!!

My list for an Opeth mix CD to get somebody into them:

Under the Weeping Moon
To Bid You Farewell
When
Godhead's Lament (or Face of Melinda)
Blackwater Park
Deliverance (or Master's Apprentices)
Hope Leaves (or Windowpane)
Ghost of Perdition (or The Baying of the Hounds)

Or, go in reverse order of the albums. That's how I got a friend into both Death and Opeth, going in reverse order, from TSOP/GR to SBG/Orchid.

that actually isnt a bad idea... the first opeth i heard was damnation (i LOVED it... still do) and it showed me the mellow side of opeth, so i wanted to hear the heavy/dark side. i appreciated the beauty of the music in the heavier stuff because id listened to damnation and then just got used to the death vox.

Id suggest something like:

In Mist She Was Standing
To Bid You Farewell
When
Face of Melinda
Bleak
Deliverance
To Ride the Disease or Ending Credits
The Grand Conjuration or Baying of the hounds.

Pretty even in sounds.

you guys are always making your life harder.... just tell him that if he goes you'd give him a b/j, that'll do it an dyou don't have to worry about doing opeth mix.

and also, it's not like you're not going to enjoy it...... right?

thats exactly how i exposed my dad to them, and he loves them now.

the drapery falls was my first opeth song and i fell in love then and there. it also pretty much started my foray into the world of metal. i think its a pretty good overview of their sound, and the first 10 min song id heard, outside of classical, that could make me stop everything and just listen.
