Opeth vs Lowkey - Melinda's Beef

Definatly!! But beware, now he will call you a hiphop lover too!
I don't have a problem with that though, its not like Hiphop annoys me too much, I can listen to it if its on, but I wouldn't listen to it through choice.
But I'd rather stand up for the guy who does like hip hop and opeth than some idiot who thinks liking other kinds of music is ruining "our music" and "our forum" or whatever he said...

Like I said, he must be a joke!

Also your reason for listening to music for the pure status of intelligence is pure stupidity in itself. Just because 'Your bands' Can wank off a guitar at light speed and you can put every band into a sub-genre doesnt mean your music is more intelligent than anyone elses. Music is supposed to sound good, not meant to be intelligent. You are talking about physical skill rather than an Intelligent or 'mature' band.
Ai ai, fo shizzy mah nizzy i be sayin da same thnag yuh no wut ah i sayin' i mean we be flyin ova ere and dere and den the dude iz like "yo yo dat ain't fillin mah mind yaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllll" in da house and then dere is bulletz flyin and pigs sellin cocaine and this world is 2 mezzed up yo we needs ta expand our horizons and end the killin so dat we can be rappin in peace, yea.

I don't generally have a problem with that sort of music, but someone told my brother to listen to Immortal Technique, so he found a download and left it going over night. It turned out to be an entire Immortal Technique discography which we listened to the next day... oh my god was that bad. He is a paranoid rapper, and there is nothing funnier than that! He was singing something like

"Bin Laden didn't blow up the projects
It was you nigga, tell the truth nigga
Bush knocked down the towers [Tell the truth nigga]
Bush knocked down the towers"

This still is one of the funniest things I have ever heard. He is a comedy character waiting to happen!

But yeah, aside from Mr.Technique I have nothing against Hip Hop/Rap, whatever you want to call it.

cool...
then we're agreed...

PS... strangely, my mate made me listen to some immortal technique today, and, he has some very very good songs... with intelligent lyrics...

haven't heard the one you just mentioned though...

A friend got me into... oh, sorry, thought you were asking me for a second...

But no, seriously I am intrigued too

mate of mine LOVES them so much its ridiculous...
in fact a couple of them do...
listened to a couple of the tunes and saw that opeth are a hugely talented band... im not the HUGEST fan of opeth by any means, and i dont listen to a lot of metal/death metal/progressive or anything...

but i can see that opeth have a lot of talent... and deserve respect...

unlike majog... who doesnt... :loco:

You don't deserve friends. Seriously you don't. I doubt anyone would want to hang out with you, especially an Opeth fan. Opeth fans are generally more handsome, toned, charming and intelligent than any lover of hiphop and that's a solid gold

F A C T.

I mean, people TALKING into microphones? What the fuck is this shit, radio? It's just rediculous. I mean, try screaming with the lEEtest death metal growl or black metal screech. That's fucking talent dude. That's TRUE music, dictionary definition.

Take this direct lyrical comparison for example.

Taken from Cannibal Corpse's classic 'Tomb Of The Mutilated' -

'Eyes bulging from their sockets
With every swing of my mallet
I smash your fucking head in, until brains seep in
through the cracks, blood does leak
distorted beauty, catastrophe
Steaming slop, splattered all over me

Lifeless body, slouching dead
Lecherous abcess, where you once had a head'

Now THAT is what I call exquisite wordplay. It's got substance, texture, beautiful rhyme scheme. Practically poetry. Compared to this.

Taken from Jehst's "Cosmic Gypsies", a 'rap' song -

'I'm weightless now, in Mother Nature's imagination
Escape the status of carbonite preservation
I occupy lunar bases in moon craters
They shield me from meteor storms and new dangers
Cosmos, conquistador crusaders
And space age sabre-tooth tiger suit slayers
Explore the dunes, we move with the spice minors
Beside science, black holes and white giants'

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN? What the hell is a sabre-tooth tiger suit slayer? Is it like Crack? Is it some darky word for prostitute? That literally makes no sense whatsoever, has no artistic merit and sounds like the drugged up ramblings of a talentless fool. I think these two passages, when put side by side, speak for themselves. Go home hiphop lover and to all those who defended him, go home too. Leave. Mike hates rap almost as much as he hates you.

God, this guy rules. He should have a book published with his 5 posts in, seriously. I'd buy it! Or his own Stand Up show!

Oh yeah, and since I feel like a rant (about Opeth hating hip hop...)
When you are young you write all kinds of stupid things, "I Hate Hip Hop" or whatever it was called being one of those. Its fun, it makes you and your friends laugh, and its clearly explains that you don't like hip hop.

He is a grown man now, and when he has spoke of that song in interviews I've read its been in jest, and almost self mockingly. Of course he doesn't love hip hop now, he probably just ignores it and listens to the music he wants to. People grow up a lot and yeah, Mikael probably won't be caught at a hip hop show anytime soon, but I doubt he would rant on about it and compare death metal lyrics to rap lyrics.

And anyone who thinks about something with such malice there is really something wrong.

I just don't get this guy, he actually genuinely seems to be light-hearted and comical in his posts, yet totally unsavoury and nasty. If he was being sarcastic or something I could understand, but in other parts his rants just seem deadly serious and moronic.

You are either a genius or a comic goldmine, either way I love you. So so much.

Immortal Technique - Dancing with the Devil is actually really good as far as lyrics/storytelling goes in rap.

One is not necessarily close minded for NOT liking this, but one is also not a "sell out", "poser" or whatever if one actually does like it!

I happen to think it's well done, and it probably took a bit of work to get it to fit. Unfortunately what you will find is that metal fans are among the most conservative people on the planet, and most of them are probably not going to like this very much.

Then again, I'm sure you expected that...

Arrgh! my eyes!

KJones.. thank you... it took some effort, yes... but i've listened back to it more than once... and i'd rather not listen to it again... it's really not very good... out of key and all that business...

phagist... sorry but this is not one of opeths best songs at all...

and as for majog... im just glad i never have to meet dumbass fools like you...

Not one of Opeth's best songs?! :OMG:

Personally, I don't have much against hip-hop. I once engineered a hip-hop recording session for a high school friend when I was in college. I actually had to bust one of the MC's on having bad rhythm. Luckily, my friend agreed with me, so the whole entourage laughed at him. Still, I was the whitest guy in the room... I did end up having fun. The best part was that the DJ had all these crazy jazz samples, and he made sure that no one found out where they came from. That was part of the mystique. So, I'm always sort of freaked out when I can recognize the sample. I generally think mashing songs together ruins both songs.

When the Beasties sampled Zeppelin, it was sort of cool. What was cooler was when Robert Plant recorded "Tall Cool One", he sampled the Beastie Boys samples of Zep!

I just hope I can unhear this track when I listen to Melinda next.:loco:
