I did some test recordings last week with all the instruments together. Sounded like total shit and that demotivated me a lot.
Now I'm starting from scratch again and make sure every instrument sounds as good as possible. My playing was really sloppy, so I need to get my act together with the bass and acoustic guitar.
Alright lads. I did another testmix. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8394538/testmix4.mp3
Been working on mixing the drums, bass and acoustic guitar. I'm more concerned about the way it sounds, than nitpicking on the volume of the different tracks.
A few things i'm still not happy about:
-The guitars sound too room-y and I haven't used any reverb whatsoever! Gotta retrack them.
-Bass guitar should be a little bit dirtier.
-The snare is a little boring and could use some extra reverb.
I also improved my overall mastering skills which helped a ton with making this song sounding nice!
Anyone else got some advice for me, since I really need a fresh pair of ears!
Are the guitars doubletracked? Why are they panned so close then?
Hihat needs a lot of work, it isn't grooving at all. They're very dry and harsh too, consider adding more room and oh to them.
