Opinions on Homosexuals in Metal

I know I'm not an idiot, just an immature but still quite intelligent guy. You're just a bagel-headed chinaberry though, Gunt.

Chuck DID have chicks. Just read up the essential information on the official site run by his mother.

Maybe his mother is a homophobe and either is making revisionist history to make him look "better," or maybe he pretended that he had them for her benefit? :P Both possible, it's also possible he was straight. Whatev

hey guys did you know that in sweden, its pretty standard for boys to kiss other boys, without it being a gay thing?
like how girls will get drunk and kiss each other here, even though they arent gay? like when i was in sweden, i had these friends, carolyn, henke and erik, and the first day i met erik, he wanted to follow me into the toilet to watch me pee and make out, but then carolyn was telling me how when she first got together with her bf, henke, erik came up to her and was like 'hey your boyfriend is a great kisser.' and like, they aren't gay.

how do you like them apples? (i think its fucking cute, by the way)
Umm... No. In most of Sweden it's not standard at all. I have never experienced something like this myself. I guess it depends on the people you hang out with. *shrug* What part of Sweden was this? Most likely not in the northern part of Sweden (if a male doesn't act really macho there, he's instantly labeled "knapsu"). :p

And to answer the thread question: It shouldn't matter what sexual orientation the members of the band has. Nor religion, ethnicity, hair color, preference in beer, or anything else. It's the music that is important.

hehe... Goteborg! had some similar experiences with some boys from stockholm too though... and heard some stories from a nice guy from umea. anyway, i probably hang with most of the gayest straight boys from sweden, but they are pretty close to the metal scene, some of them are the metal sscene so... it sticks!

Ahh... Göteborg and Stockholm are big cities and the diversity (is that the right term to use?) is big there. So that makes sense. :) Umeå is pretty close to the "real-macho parts" though. :p But then again, things might have changed since I moved south.

You are right though that it has become more and more accepted here in Sweden (in general), as a male to embrace your feminine side, without being considered gay. But as I said, I have no idea how the case is with the northern parts after I moved away from there about 6 years ago.

yeah, from what i understand, the northern parts would probably have a bit less of the out in open, just for giggles, man-on-man action. though i havent been there myself. but i guess umea is pretty hippy, though i didn't get to see for myself.

anyway, i love sweden, and swedish guys (and swedish girls, but not sexually, sorry), and their alternative to american macho. at least the ones i'm friends with. which makes sense...

Yeah. I think that has something to do with how it used to be up there in the past. The men used to go work in the forest, sometimes several weeks without coming home in between, while the women took care of the household. It was just practical that way. Some things were considered male jobs while some things were considered female jobs. And if a male did a female job, he was considered "knapsu". That expression has survived and is used today more jokingly than not (with some exceptions).

Things that are considered "knapsu" are also not set in stone and is different for each occation and location... Playing a musical instrument is usually considered very "knapsu"... But Metal or Rock music is considered macho... So playing a guitar in a rock/metal band is... probably not "knapsu"? Some men up there spend their lives trying to avoid doing things that are considered "knapsu". I just think that's silly, but hey, it's their lives. :p

I like most of Sweden and the people up north are usually really friendly too. :) And the nature in the northernmost Sweden is incredible with its beautiful mountains. If you have the chance to go up there, I'd recommend that you do.

I think people think chuck is gay because the way he sounds when he talks. The guys voice has no masculine qualities.

and this is why he
1. was voted sexiest man alive
2. has a lot of lyrics concerning heterosexual sex...

i really doubt this one. he does have a self image thing.
here's the facts:

1. he was voted sexiest man alive in "Fag Monthly"
2. he's overcompensating with the hetero sex because he's gay, period
