Opinions on this mix

I thought that too when I put it through my computer speakers, I used the Podxt through and eq and into the soundcard. I dont have a good amp thats any good for recording. I compressed it and limited it in cubase after and that was it, It was my first time trying the Pod for recording, should I add some highs in the eq in cubase or what do you suggest?

I'm only listening on a crappy pair of headphones "optimus nova 79" but from what I CAN hear your drums sound very live, how'd you record them? I don't know if its the headphones but the guitars seem a bit loud man get those drums up there and you're on the right track I'd say. I read this and found it very helpful GUITARS EQ I hope this helps man. By the way, am I hearing some slayer influence?

I know some people around here get really good results recording directly from POD, but have you tried turning off the speaker emulation and playing around with cabinet impulses? It may help you out (or may not be the sound you're after). Impulses breathed new life into my POD, except right now I'm more hyped about the WagnerSharp ampsim plug.

Cheers for all the advice, Ya, I actually did nothing on the EQ so I'll try and put some life into the guitars using that, cheers for your help, I dont know bout that slayer influence, it's been awhile since i listened to slayer, but its nice that you thought that.

Thanks for that, I havent tried turning off the speaker emulation, but I gave impulses a try, I only found software last week that i was able to try the impulses with and they were very trebly, but I didnt test them out too much, When i get more settled I'm going to try them out, I must install Mac leopard today and test out that LAconvolution as it wouldnt work with my version. What impulses did you find worked well with your POD? What is the wagner plugin? I've heard a lot about it, is it like amplitude?

Cheers for that advice
I'll do more work on the drums and I must redo the guitar, it is muddy, after hearing it on other systems your spot on.There actually is no bass in the song, we had no bass available that day so I think I was trying to overcompensate the lack of bass and made the guitar too bassy. The playing was rushed, we wrote and recorded the piece in bout 3 hours as we were only trying to get a good sound, Cheers for your help.

Thanks to everyone for your advice,
Sean

I have (along with many people here) tons of impulses, but I've mainly only tried GuitarHack's and have been really happy with them. For hosting the impulses, I either use Voxengo Boogex (freeware) or use the impulse module in Revalver2. If you use Boogex, remember to turn the Amplifier output all the way down and set the Dry Pre Cab to 0dB.

WagnerSharp is a really nice freeware ampsim. It sounds really great. MUCH better than Amplitube...or Amplitube2 (just my opinion). Some people here have said it's very 5150-ish. As I've never played through one, I have to take their word for it. I just know I really like its sound. And it blends really well with Recto-ish type sounds (like Revalver2 Kitty). You can find WagnerSharp at: http://www.the29a.org/nickcrow/Wagner_Sharp_v0.6.zip

There's a lot of good clips of Wagner or Wagner/Revalver around here. I used this blend on rhythm guitars and Wagner only for lead melody on my clip found here: http://www.upload.celtiaproductions.co.uk/uploads/Intro_To_Madness_Mix_2.mp3
I used GuitarHack's "mesa trad quad edge" impulse for this song.

Or for a really good example of Wagner for rhythms, check out jhakwe's clip "tainted blood" in the thread: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/...nted-blood-circulation-wip-vocals-anyone.html (find the link in the middle of the thread..."test6".

Hope this helps.

Grywolf627. I downloaded the Guitarhacks impulses. Which one is this one?

GuitarHack's "mesa trad quad edge"

Didn't see any cab descriptions in the zip file (outside of placement)

If you got the winrar file that's on the ftp currently, that has most of the GuitarHack impulses, but not all. I just uploaded the mesa cabinet impulses to the main folder of the ftp. Grab those. But there's tons of other great impulses in the other GuitarHack archive. :headbang:

As soon as Gavin gets the ftp mess straightened out, we'll start the Impulse folder again, with all different kinds of impulses, not just cabinets. Unless someone wants to start it again now. Personally, I'd rather wait until Gavin gives the okay (don't want to cause him more headaches).

Cheers for all that, I really appreciate it, I was looking at that voxengo boogex, but as far as I could find it was only for windows and I've got a mac, I must try out LA Convolver as I think that my work now as I upgraded to 10.5. Is that WagnerSharp available on mac? You got an amazing sound in that link you showed me. I'll check out that way of recording, you've definately inspired me to focus some time on impulses,
cheers

Does anyone know of similar convolution revrbs or Ampsims for a mac that they have used?

Sean

like mentioned before, guitars are way too dominant

the whole thing also sounds like it's been crushed to death
