Orden Ogan

I'd read the name before, but I had never heard these guys before the PP announcement and did some investigating. THis is some slick stuff. First thought was a perfect cross of Evergrey and Blind Guardian, but that's just after three youtube vids and probably not a good comparison or sample size. I always pronounced the band name when read as if it was Thor's father's kindney, Odin Organ. Of course I refer to Dimmu Borgir and Dummy Burger, so take that for what it's worth.

I'm not a power metal guy by any means, but this is cool stuff. I had some Amazon bucks to play with and grabbed their latest release To the End as I read this is where they dropped a lot of their folkish influences and added modern edging. How is their back catalog?

You need 'Vale'. That's their best album. 'Easton Hope' was good but was lacking a certain spark. I don't even remember how 'Testimonium A.D.' sounded; it was quite different from their later stuff.

I second Vale. That's the album that made me fall in love with them. However, I have several friends that didn't finally fall for the band until To the End came out.

Try the song Reality Lost from Vale as a starting point:

I believe Testimonium A.D. is long out of print. I only know two songs from it (they were available as downloads from their myspace page a loooong time ago): Angel's War and The Real Ocean. Angel's War was reworked and included on To The End.

I LOVE Orden Ogan. "The Things We Believe In" is one of the best power metal anthems in years. Orden Ogan will probably be the highlight of the year for me if I go.

I've seen them live and to be honest they stole the show and they were supporting Rhapsody.

I loved Easton Hope, the album is fantastic start to finish, no "lack of spark" for me on that one. That was the album that got my attention on this band. I will say you can't go wrong with any of the 4 releases so far. The latest album (To The End) is my favorite. To me each release is just a little better than the one before and they started out really strong.

I am a prog guy, but I absolutely love Orden Ogan and have had them on my sponsorship list in previous years. Easton Hope is a masterpiece and their other two albums are very strong. Like Pagans Mind, I think that Orden Ogan will appeal to Power and Prog fans. Great choice, Glenn!

Easton Hope seems to be hit or miss for people. Personally, I think it's their best and one of my all time favorite albums. Vale and To The End are also both very strong albums.

Same here. I loved Vale when it came out, but Easton Hope was start to finish a better album IMHO. The latest is a strong album as well, but I still find I listen to Easton Hope the most. They are a highlight of the fest for me.

I fully, 100% agree with this here. I had Orden Ogan on my sponsship list as well. In addition, I also had Stratovarious as well, so go figure that both of these bands made the roster.

I also think Easton Hope is really good, and finding myself listening to that one more than the others. However, for somebody wanting to check out this band, definitely check out all three of their albums that is at least available (good luck trying to find Testimonium A.D., their self-produced, self-released first album, though). I guess you could *ahem* "acquire" it, though.

Of all the bands I've checked out this is THE surprise band for me...I thought the same thing, Blind Guardian influence, maybe a little viking metal influence. Love the songs We Are Pirates and The Things We Believe In. All the songs I've heard are so catchy. They've gone from completely off my radar to one of the more anticipated bands of ProgPower.

I've also heard the name before the fest but haven't given them a serious listen till now. I really dig it, just ordered the ltd edition of their latest album. Same goes for Pagan's Mind.

I love this band, the song WE ARE PIRATES took me back to my Younger days when I was amazed listening to my all time fave band RUNNING WILD. Orden Ogan is the main reason I'll be at Prog Power next year.

I haven't been to ProgPower since 2002, but I am seriously considering going next year for this band. To The End is the best power metal album since At The Edge Of Time.

Progpower has had many awesome years in the past decade. But I would trade all of them in order to go back and attend 2002.

I think one reason I haven't been since (besides the distance - I am also in Massachusetts) is that PPIII was so incredible that every one since seemed inferior. Stupid reason, I know, but true.
