We have some here in France as well, either to protect bus-only lanes or pedestrian areas of the city where firemen, police, ambulances, cleaning services or deliverees must access though. A friend of mine got his car stuck on one of those while working as a deliveree, haha But they don't get back up so quickly, it's very dangerous... His car was stopped waiting for the red light to go green, and the thingy just came up under the car and raised it, two wheels where not touching the ground anymore
